108 ISSUES This is the 108th issue of The Showtimes Magazine!

COVER The Showtimes has designed every cover of our magazine since July 2013! Plus, we've designed covers for other publications in our industry as well!

When we start working on an issue of The Showtimes, I’m never sure what the finished magazine will look like. Each issue starts with an empty folder and blank pages. As the magazine folder fills up and the pages come together, I’m always in such awe of how a specific issue can capture a moment in time. As this issue took form, I loved how much meat it had to it. From full coverage of our Blackout show and numerous shows that took place this Spring, to highlighting our new Hall of Fame Members, Junior Nationals and top industry genetics, sales and products, the magazine has substance. I love that. It leaves me looking forward to the Junior Nationals where it will be distributed! Speaking of Junior Nationals, The Showtimes is excited to be the Official Media Partner of the 2026 AJSA National Classic in Grand Island, Nebraska as well as the 2026 Charolais Junior National in Hutchinson, Kansas. We look forward to seeing you at multiple shows this Summer and coverage from all of the Junior Nationals thanks to our Showtimes Summer Road Crew! If you see us around the barns or show rings, be sure to say hello. In addition to just the magazine, one of our favorite parts of Junior Nationals is working with the various shows on their designs and sign and banner printing! From backdrops to ring wraps, anytime we can add The Showtimes Effect to a

show it is special to us.

Contact us today to be a part of your event! As we head into

028

the Summer, we also look

forward to one of our favorite issues of the year...

the State Fair Edition! The

deadline is July 10th. Reach out to us to be a part of the issue that goes to all of the State Fairs and offers the most exposure leading into Fall Sale Season! If you need us to design your ads, we can help you with that as well as take ads that are camera ready. The upcoming months are sure to be busy, but none of us in the livestock industry know anything different! It’s a blessed life we all are able to live. Just like the magazine, all of our lives start as empty folders that we fill up in various ways each day. Make a point to fill your folders with substance. See you on the road!

DYLAN LILLEHOLM Big thanks to The Showtimes / the Reid family for putting on such a great show [The Blackout X]. We’re truly thankful for all you do for the youth and for creating opportunities for the next generation. KENT JAECKE It [The Blackout X] was one of the most enjoyable and memorable events I have ever been a part of, Thank You to you and your family for including me in your Amazing Event!!! THE GITTLEIN FAMILY ...I wanted to let you all know that you truly are amazing people...Over the years you all have captured candids of her at junior nationals and her beloved Blackout and I will forever be in debt for those memories. She was set to show this weekend, but with the wind and the fires in the next counties over we told her it was not doable. A good friend got her to the contest yesterday and she had a great day! Thank you for investing your time in these kids! The exposure she has gotten over the years at the contest led her down the path to this new adventure...You guys are such a blessing in so many ways, never stop doing what you are doing! MADISON FISCHER Thank you for the opportunity to be featured in The Showtimes. It was a tremendous honor. Thank you for all you do for the agriculture industry. The Showtimes is the voice of the junior livestock industry. I’m truly blessed to be included! HANNAH HARRISON Thank you for your generous support of all junior activities at The Blackout Jackpot! Specifically the scholarships...Aside from thanking you for the significant scholarship, I would also like to thank you for your continuous support of the juniors in the livestock industry! NEW MEMBER MAY 2026

HALL OF FAME

e was born in a Lawton, Oklahoma and lived in a small town—Elgin—where the days were long, the creeks were endless, and childhood meant muddy boots and imagination. Back then, you could find him down by the water with Robbie Scacher, turning Legos and Hot Wheels into entire worlds, the kind only kids can build. He

started small in more ways than one—a preemie, barely four pounds—but there was never anything small about the life he would grow into. He was raised in the rhythm of cattle shows and early mornings, showing Hereford heifers and learning the discipline that would define him. Winning came often, but it wasn’t luck—it was work. The same work ethic that would later make him one of the hardest-working men you know, right up there with your dad. Which he has followed in his dad footsteps. He learned early how to care deeply about the details, even if in other parts of life, he could be completely laid back. That balance became part of his charm. Somewhere along the way, he became known not just for what he did, but how he did it. He could make a room laugh with spot-on impressions—especially of AJ Smith, someone he admired deeply. He had a way of observing people, really seeing them, and then bringing them to life again in his own way. It’s the same attention to detail that shows up in his “footnotes,” one of his signature quirks as a manager, and in his near-photographic memory. The kind of memory that lets him call you out of the blue and say, “Pull that catalog from that year, page 12, blue ink—what number did you write down?” And somehow, he’s always right. He built a life that spans more ground than most—living in Australia for a time, working across industries from Farm Progress to web design at The Worx, selling repossessed houses when the boys were little, managing the Angus Challenger, and building relationships with clients from California to Alabama. No matter the role—ringman, sales manager, auctioneer—he gave it everything. Every sale catalog, every connection, every detail mattered. And yet, for all the work, he knows how to have fun. He’s the kind of man your mom would’ve picked out instantly: someone who can dance, someone who enjoys life. He’ll eat supper late, take his ice cream with crushed saltine crackers, and spend time snorkeling whenever he gets the chance. He’s almost always on the phone, always available, always answering when someone needs him.

059

He loves deeply and loyally—his dogs Boone and Shai could do no wrong in his eyes. He’s endlessly proud of Jake and Evan, the kind of proud that shows in quiet moments and loud ones too. Faith anchors him, showing up every Wednesday morning for Bible study, steady and consistent. He’s collected stories the way some people collect things— though to be fair, he’s got quite the collection of hats and boots too. He jokes that he looks like Bruce Willis with his facial hair, and maybe in a way, he does—not because of the resemblance, but because of the presence. Solid, unmistakable, a little larger than life. He’s not much of a cowboy, at least not by his own experience—after all, getting bucked off twice (once by a horse, once by a mechanical bull) will teach you something—but he’s something better. He’s resilient. He’s adaptable. He’s steady. He helped lead and coach the OSU judging team to a national title, something he’s always been proud of, just like his deep love for OSU itself. He measures success in ways most people wouldn’t think to—like calculating how many head he sells per minute—but that’s just how his mind works. Always moving, always calculating, always striving. He’s nearly impossible to shop for, not because he’s picky, but because he’s already built a life full of everything that matters. When you gave him a puppy for Christmas, he thought it was a test—a step toward something bigger.

But really, it was simpler than that: he already had everything… except maybe one more thing to love. And in the end, that’s what defines him most. Not just the work, the wins, or the stories—but the life he’s built with Amiee, side by side, since 1997. A man who started small but built something big. A man of details and big pictures, of laughter and discipline, of loyalty and love. A man who shows up—always. ●

Express Ranches Donnie Robertson

Matt has been involved with Express since the very beginning working as a ringman at our first Fast Forward sale in 1993. In the mid 90s he began working with his father Eddie Sims as one of our Auctioneer’s later after Eddie’s retirement he assumed the roll taking over for his father. As one of two of our auctioneer’s for every sale here at Express Matts accomplishments are many but to me he has become a dear friend to me and one that makes my life better. I’m proud of his dedication to his family, friends but more importantly his Faith in Jesus Christ and his Discipleship in spreading the word of God. ●

Pembrook Cattle Company Matt Sims has been part of this program since 2005—but saying that almost feels too small for what he really is. He’s not just someone who’s been “with us.” He’s someone who helped hold everything together. There’s a phrase that became second nature over the years. Whenever something didn’t quite add up, whenever there was a question about a sale, a detail in a catalog, or just a gut-check moment—Travis would say it without hesitation: “I’m calling Matt.” And that was that. Because if Matt Sims was on the other end of the line, things were going to get figured out. Matt Sims isn’t just knowledgeable—though he absolutely is. He understands cattle, programs, and people in a way that can’t really be taught. But more than that, he’s steady. The kind of steady you build a business—and a friendship—around. Trust like that doesn’t come easy, but somehow, Matt earned it early and never let go of it. Travis trusted him. We trusted him. And to this day, that hasn’t changed. Because Matt isn’t just loyal when it’s convenient—his loyalty runs deep. To people, to their programs, to doing things the right way. It’s rare, and it’s real.

But if you ask what truly sets him apart, it goes beyond work. His faith is the foundation of everything he does. It shows up in how he leads, how he treats people, and how he carries himself every single day. There’s a quiet strength in that kind of dedication—a consistency that doesn’t waver. His leadership isn’t loud, but it’s powerful. The kind that influences others without ever needing the spotlight. And then there’s friendship. Matt doesn’t just show up when things are easy—he shows up, period. Through long days, big decisions, sacrifices, and seasons that required more than most people ever see. Not just him, but his family too. The commitment they’ve made to PCC is something that doesn’t go unnoticed, and it certainly isn’t taken for granted. Because when you look at it all—the years, the trust, the faith, the loyalty—it becomes clear: Matt Sims isn’t just part of the team. He’s part of the foundation. And at the end of the day, it’s simple and it’s true— He loves to Do Hard Things!! We love you, Matt Sims. And we’re beyond thankful for you and your family. ●

HALL OF FAME

Tech, developing multiple national champion teams. His career included a rare distinction—becoming the first individual to win national championships in livestock judging at the 4-H, junior college, and senior college levels, and later coaching a national champion senior college team. But winning was never the primary focus; developing people was. He coached students who achieved nearly every accolade in collegiate judging, yet what stands out most is who they became after. His programs were built with a simple goal: develop better people. Today, many of those former students are

Dr. Jon DeClerck’s path to industry leadership didn’t begin with elite cattle or a famous prefix. It began with a passion for cattle, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Growing up on a diversified farm in western Illinois, DeClerck showed primarily at the local and state level. By his own admission, the cattle weren’t always competitive. Rather than discouraging him, those early experiences sparked a deeper curiosity centered on improvement. Like many young people in the industry, DeClerck was given opportunities through the show ring, livestock judging, and the people he met along the way. What separated him wasn’t where he started, but how he responded. Showing cattle taught him how to compete. Not just against others, but against himself. The goal wasn’t to win every time; it was to be better than the last time. What started as a desire to improve show cattle became a passion for understanding the science behind cattle production. It led DeClerck to a Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition, and eventually to a career focused on helping producers build better cattle. Today, as Executive Vice President of the American Simmental Association (ASA), DeClerck leads one of the most progressive breed organizations in

the country and oversees the world’s largest multi- breed genetic evaluation through International Genetic Solutions (IGS), representing more than 24 million head of cattle across numerous breed associations worldwide. But the blueprint hasn’t changed. It’s still the same one learned early on in the show ring: compete, improve, and capitalize on the opportunities in front of you. Competitive Origins DeClerck’s involvement in judging quickly became a defining influence. As a junior, he earned All- American honors in both livestock and meats judging and was a member of a national champion livestock judging team. His collegiate journey began at Black Hawk Community College, where his livestock judging team dominated the national circuit, winning 13 competitions and finishing second only once. He then earned his bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, where his team secured its place in history as the only undefeated National Champion Livestock Judging Team. But beyond the accolades, judging taught something far more valuable. Decision- making. Judging doesn't just teach you how to rank livestock; it teaches you how to think under pressure. Successful

evaluation requires individuals to make

informed decisions without having perfect information. In meat animal evaluation, for example, students are asked to judge live animals and predict carcass outcomes and forecast profitability. Those decisions are rarely perfect, yet they must be made with confidence—a dynamic that mirrors the livestock industry itself. Producers and industry leaders are constantly required to make decisions with incomplete data, balancing risk, opportunity, and long-term outcomes. Through coaching, DeClerck developed a deep appreciation for this process. More importantly, he learned how to teach it, helping students build confidence and discipline to make sound decisions in uncertain environments. It’s a skill set that extends far beyond collegiate evaluation and into every level of leadership within the industry. It’s one of the reasons so many industry leaders share a background in livestock judging. It doesn’t just teach evaluation; it teaches how to think. Building Leaders Along the Way Before transitioning into industry leadership, DeClerck spent nearly a decade in academia coaching livestock judging

067

prominent breeders and leaders in the livestock industry. Watching their growth beyond the classroom and judging arena remains the most fulfilling part of his career. As an educator, DeClerck became known for his ability to connect scientific principles with real-world application, helping

teams at Iowa State University and Texas

068

students understand not just what decisions to make, but how those decisions translated into measurable outcomes in both performance and profitability. His coaching emphasized preparation, accountability, and strategic thinking, skills that extended far beyond competition and helped shape the next generation of industry leaders. That same philosophy carried into his time with Purina, where he became a trusted advisor to some of the largest and most influential cattle operations in the country, further strengthening his ability

to translate science into actionable, on-the-ground results. A Foundation Built in the Junior Program Despite the accolades, degrees, and leadership roles he now holds, DeClerck remains grounded where it all began: the junior program. That foundation continues to inform his work today in leading the ASA, where he is able to combine two of his greatest passions: advancing the cattle industry and investing in the next generation. Through ASA’s junior

069

programs and leadership development efforts, he remains committed to giving back to the same system that helped shape his path. The show ring, livestock judging, and the relationships built along the way became a springboard, one that led to a livestock judging scholarship, funded his education, and ultimately led to a career spanning academia, consulting, and industry leadership. His story is a testament to the power of the junior program. Success in this industry isn’t defined

by where you start; it’s defined by how you maximize opportunity, build relationships, and turn both into lasting impact. Today, as he leads the ASA, Jon DeClerck isn't just managing a breed; he’s ensuring the next generation has the same 'blueprint for opportunity' that defined his own career. ●

DIFFERENT KNOTS ARE BUILT FOR DIFFERENT JOBS. KNOW YOUR KNOT

FORGED SQUARE KNOT Provides extra vertical strength to withstand the impact of large animals. I also allows flexibility for installation on hilly terrain. The 45-degree angle cut on the knot leaves no sharp edges. The forging process guarantees the knot-wire is pressed and locked into position underneath the stay wire.

FIXED KNOT TECHNOLOGY A third wire wraps around the intersection of vertical and horizontal wires, providing four contact points that lock them firmly in place, resisting slippage and increasing strength. SMOOTH KNOT DESIGN The knots are smooth on both sides, ensuring there are no sharp edges to cause injury to livestock.

DURABILITY & FLEXIBILITY Acts as a spring to absorb pressure from livestock or wildlife, allowing the fence to give under pressure and return to its original shape. FOR ANY TERRAIN Ideal for rolling or rough terrain, the hinge structure allows for following the contour of the ground better than fixed knot options.

GALVANIZED Wires are galvanized using a tight wipe system before welding, providing a smooth, uniform, and corrosion-resistant finish that extends the fence’s life. SAFETY & SMOOTHNESS The manufacturing process eliminates sharp burrs, preventing injury to pets, livestock, or people.
