He loves deeply and loyally—his dogs Boone and Shai could do no wrong in his eyes. He’s endlessly proud of Jake and Evan, the kind of proud that shows in quiet moments and loud ones too. Faith anchors him, showing up every Wednesday morning for Bible study, steady and consistent. He’s collected stories the way some people collect things— though to be fair, he’s got quite the collection of hats and boots too. He jokes that he looks like Bruce Willis with his facial hair, and maybe in a way, he does—not because of the resemblance, but because of the presence. Solid, unmistakable, a little larger than life. He’s not much of a cowboy, at least not by his own experience—after all, getting bucked off twice (once by a horse, once by a mechanical bull) will teach you something—but he’s something better. He’s resilient. He’s adaptable. He’s steady. He helped lead and coach the OSU judging team to a national title, something he’s always been proud of, just like his deep love for OSU itself. He measures success in ways most people wouldn’t think to—like calculating how many head he sells per minute—but that’s just how his mind works. Always moving, always calculating, always striving. He’s nearly impossible to shop for, not because he’s picky, but because he’s already built a life full of everything that matters. When you gave him a puppy for Christmas, he thought it was a test—a step toward something bigger.
But really, it was simpler than that: he already had everything… except maybe one more thing to love. And in the end, that’s what defines him most. Not just the work, the wins, or the stories—but the life he’s built with Amiee, side by side, since 1997. A man who started small but built something big. A man of details and big pictures, of laughter and discipline, of loyalty and love. A man who shows up—always. ●
Express Ranches Donnie Robertson
Matt has been involved with Express since the very beginning working as a ringman at our first Fast Forward sale in 1993. In the mid 90s he began working with his father Eddie Sims as one of our Auctioneer’s later after Eddie’s retirement he assumed the roll taking over for his father. As one of two of our auctioneer’s for every sale here at Express Matts accomplishments are many but to me he has become a dear friend to me and one that makes my life better. I’m proud of his dedication to his family, friends but more importantly his Faith in Jesus Christ and his Discipleship in spreading the word of God. ●
