From the bottom of our hearts, we are so thankful for you and your family. You’ve personally made us better people. Over the past eight years we’ve tore up the roads experiencing some of the greatest memories in and out of the show ring.

Achieving many goals and falling short of a few. Your grace, positive attitude, heart of gold, compassion, kindness and ability to give it your all - always impresses us. We’re so very grateful for the impact you’ve made on us and our boys. In fact, everyone who has the opportunity to know you - is TRULY BLESSED. We believe the greatest memories are yet to come. The impact you will continue to make, on the youth is what makes us so proud of you. The future holds NO LIMITS for you. Continue to set the GOAL HIGH and CHASE THE DREAM!

from the editor

THIS ISWHYWESHOW THE GREATEST BLESSING

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be one of the big city magazine editors that sit at their big desk in a corner office. An editor who’s job was to delegate out the various jobs tied to putting together a magazine and only sign off on the final layouts, designs and editorial presented to them. While that form of editing may take away many of the late nights in the office or carrying of bulky, heavy cameras at shows, it would also take away the best part of owning The Showtimes along with my family. This September/October 2021 Fall Edition of The Showtimes took more than a few weeks in the office. It covers everything from the Show Steer Junior Nationals and multiple State Fairs that took place earlier this Summer to shows and sales that will take place well into the New Year. It took phone conversations and forming relationships with individuals from all facets that make up the livestock industry. A highlight of this issue was working on the feature recognizing our new Hall of Fame members, Blake and Wravenna Bloomberg. It allowed us to visit with industry great’s such as Dan Hoge to new up-and-comers such as Kyndal Reitzenstein and Ashley Judge. If I was up in my corner office, I would never be the one to have the discussions learning how two individuals have made such a lasting impact on so many or discuss with an industry icon about the importance of 4-H and FFA programs. The last few months have consisted of traveling to shows and making plans to travel to

more. Be sure to check out our full State Fair coverage throughout this issue. Not only in the show results, but in the Beyond the Backdrops featuring bios from multiple State Fair Champions! Our schedule is full as we move into the Fall between design work, catalogs and more shows to cover. We are excited to see everyone in Kansas City a the American Royal! It is always one of our favorite shows to cover. With the end of the year fast approaching, we are also opening up applications for our internships that will be available during the National Western Stock Show. More information can be found in this issue or online at theshowtimesmagazine.com. We are excited to also be launching a new line of Showtimes merchandise that will be available online by the beginning of October! With cooler weather on the horizon, our Showtimes hoodies will be a must! Check out our online store at shopshowtimes. com. I have to wrap this up to finish the remainder of the magazine such as the index and contents since sitting at that big desk to simply sign off on the finished product is not in my job description. But know this - traveling to shows, working long hours and being able to put The Showtimes Effect on the livestock industry is my family’s greatest blessing. •

The 2021 Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities set a new record this year and leading the way was Iowa 4-H member, Owen Powell and his steer Chuck. Chuck raised $5,000 at the live auction with Powell’s family and community contributing another $42,600. In addition to raising funds, Powell also donated over 100 pounds of pop tabs and over 3,000 non-perishable items to his local Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. NEW MEMBER SEPT. 2021

Friends of newShowtimes Hall of FameMembers Blake andWravenna Bloomberg share their story!

lake and Wravenna Bloomberg are a union of two of the most talented and competitive people I have ever had the opportunity to work with. My witness of their passion and impact on the livestock industry dates to the first day of Animal Science at Black Hawk East in the Fall of 2003. The day they met. At exactly one o’clock in the afternoon, the auditorium at BHE was filled with around 70 Freshmen. I opened with, “I want all of you in this auditorium to look around.” I paused for the next minute. “This is the greatest assembly ever assembled at Black Hawk College.” Sitting amongst those freshmen were a young man from Illinois, Blake Bloomberg, and a young lady from Nebraska, Wravenna Phipps. They didn’t know each other at that moment, but it didn’t take them long to start dating. Both Blake and Wravenna were members of the esteemed ‘04/’05 BHE Livestock Judging Team that won Kansas City, Louisville, Denver and Houston. One of only three teams in Junior College history to win all four contests. After having marked cards at every

National contest, both Blake and Wravenna continued this trend on the University level. The passion Blake and Wravenna have for youth in the livestock industry is exemplified in their children – especially their daughter Breckyn who has started showing. I watched Blake grow up, and his talent happened so naturally. I am big into genetics. Genetically speaking, they both received a world of talent and ability from their families. What Blake and Wravenna have to offer the livestock industry from an education standpoint is unmatched. In over 50 years, there has never been a time more important than now to recognize families like the Bloomberg’s. It is because of individuals like them that we will continue to have livestock and Agriculture focused events moving forward. History will record Blake and Wravenna Bloomberg rewriting livestock showing history – and they are just getting started! It has been fun to be a part of and I look forward to watching it all evolve the next 10-15 years!

- Dan Hoge

When you start talking about industry greats and people who truly have made a lasting impact on not only the cattle world, but also on countless student’s life, it would be foolish not to consider Blake Bloomberg, and his wife Wravenna, at the top of the list. Together, they are truly an inspiring class act paving the way for women judges while constantly striving to develop not just exceptional stockman, but even greater young people. I’m extremely grateful livestock judging made our paths cross and am proud to call them both mentors and friends.

I’m a firm believer that God puts certain people in your life for a reason. Blake, Wravenna and their kids have truly been a blessing in my world and we have created a friendship that I’ll forever be thankful for. Some of my favorite memories are the thousands of miles Blake, myself and Oklahoma State judging teams traveled in the vans. Several laughs, triumphs and tears were shed traveling across the country, but one thing is for certain - Blake’s and Wravenna’s passion for the team members and success was unparalleled. I took it for granted back then, but now I can say it was pretty dang awesome learning from the best coach in the game. Leaving home was never easy in college, but thankfully Wravenna and the kids became my second family and it has been enjoyable watching them grow up and have success in the show ring. If there is anything I want them to know, I just want to say thank you for everything you have done for me over the years and being role models for many in the livestock industry.

Blake and Wravenna Bloomberg are the true definition of friends that become family. They will be there for you during the highs and lows of life. In the Fall of 2016, Blake took a wild and untamed group of Black Hawk students under his wing and turned us into National Champions. What people didn’t see was a team that became a family. A family that is still together today. Blake truly earned my full respect when he delivered the worst news I’ve ever received in my life. The Bloomberg’s helped me through a tragedy and for that, I’m forever grateful. They stood by me through the worst moments of my life and will stand by my side on the happiest day of my life. Most people see the competitive, intense family at shows and if you are lucky like I am, you get to see both sides of the Bloomberg family. All I have to say is Thank You for the Trust and Love you have shown towards Brynn and myself.

I have had a great deal of people that have in- fluenced my life over the years, but I don’t think anyone has more than Blake and Wravenna. They are two of the greatest people I have ever known. They are family. Not only are they BOTH incred- ible livestock evaluators, but they provided me with opportunities that many others would have never considered. Blake was not only a coach and mentor but a big brother to me in so many ways. They stood up for me and supported my sister and I like we were their own. I think everyone who judged for Blake would agree that he is a winner and will teach you to be a winner, but more importantly, he will continue to help you in your career and your life aspirations long past graduation. There’s no two people that I would say have a greater impact on the industry and the future of the livestock industry more than Blake and Wravenna Bloomberg. I couldn’t imagine having judged for or been an assistant to anyone other than Blake, and I am beyond thankful to call them and their family my family as well.

fill in the blanks

NATIONALWESTERNSTOCKSHOW’S LIVESTOCK COORDINATORFILLS INTHEBLANKS! CLANCY ANDERSON

My biggest mentor is… Kylee Deniz has always been my navigational beacon when it comes to career advice and inspiration. She’s dynamic, composed and a straight up #girlboss we should all try to be a little more like.

The funniest thing that has happened to me at a show is… A few years back at the NWSS I had a gal ask me for a special permit for her assistance alpaca. She said it rode in her van and since she didn’t sleep in a barn, neither did the alpaca.

The best part about working for the National Western Stock Show is… The wide range of people I get to work with. The olive branches of our organization reach many people from many walks of life - one day I’m saying hey to Pete Coors in the lobby and the next I’m working with first year 4-H kids in our Catch-A-Calf program who are grateful to have their first steer on the farm. I’d also have to say working with our interns is pretty great. It’s truly rewarding to see them go on and become talented peers in the industry.

92

My biggest pet peeve is… Rude people and repetitive noises.

Shows would not be the same without… The people!

If I could have dinner with anyone it would be… George Strait and Garth Brooks, accompanied by them playing their favorites on some acoustic guitars.

One day I could live over and over again is… My 30th birthday. Some pretty awesome people in my life surprised me with a weekend in Texas wine country and my goodness did they make me feel pretty dang special.

Never would I ever… Order blue cheese or own a bird.

About Clancy I serve as the Livestock Coordinator at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. There, my responsibilities center around getting 12,000+ head of livestock entered in shows, sales and special events that pass through the Stock Show's gates every year. I manage all of the livestock marketing efforts, including digital, print and placing Stock Show stories into the hands of the media. I help coordinate special events and educational programs like the Collegiate Livestock Judging Contest, Vet101, Herd Sire Display and our Media Scholar program. Most recently, my efforts have focused on the redevelopment and expansion of the National Western Center, where I serve as a voice for thousands of livestock families and enthusiasts who have called Stock Show their January home for generations. I coordinate several internal committees, including Junior Shows, Judges, Breed Associations, Yards, Specialty Shows and the practical beef management Catch-A- Calf program. I proudly hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Communications with a minor in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University.

93

One thing I could not live without is… Ranch dressing. It’s a food group to me!

NATIONALWESTERN STOCK SHOW JANUARY8-23, 2022

Somethingmost people would not know about me is…

I actually have two older brothers who live in Los Angeles and work in the tech industry. We’re complete opposites but they are two incredibly awesome, inspiring people and I’m lucky to call them my brothers.
