Sept/Oct 2021 Fall Edition

My name is Carson Shafer, I was born on April 3rd 2002 as the third child of Steve and Beth Shafer. I have grown up and lived on a farm in Preble county Ohio where we raise corn, soybeans, own contract finishing hog buildings, as well as a small herd of beef cows where I am raising show cattle. I graduated from Eaton High School and Miami Valley Career Technology Center in May of 2021 where I specialized in Diesel Tech. This fall I plan to continue working on the family farm with hopes of growing the business. In addition to agriculture being the largest influence on my life, I also spent 11 years playing football in the Eaton school systems youth programs. I was fortunate enough as a senior last fall to be named Second Team All-Ohio as a member of the defensive line. Football taught me many important lessons and I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing for the Eaton Eagles while making many friends and mentors in the process. With all that being said, my entire life my family has worked towards a major goal of winning the Ohio State fair steer show. We showed there for roughly 20 consecutive years starting with my oldest sister, Kylee, who is now 29 years old. As a family, we have spent countless hours in the cooler room. In fact, my first steps as a child were taken in the cooler room and I never looked back from there. The closest we had ever gotten

to achieving our goal was in 2009, when my sister got 5th overall at the state fair. I have been around show cattle since I was born, and my family and I are beyond thrilled with the result of the 2021 Ohio State Fair steer

show and making a lifelong dream come true. All the hours of sacrifice, dedication, and hard work have finally come to fruition. •
