beyond the backdrop

M y name is Drew Jacobson, and I am 15 years old from Osceola, IA. My parents are Andy and Nicole Jacobson and I have a younger sister Macy. They all have been a huge part of my success inside and outside of the ring. Looking back my parents have by far been the biggest attribute to my success over the years with the love and support they give me every day. They are truly the foundation of my success, and I cannot begin to thank them enough for providing me with high-quality livestock and the life lessons I need to succeed. My youngest sister Macy has shown against or alongside me since I can remember. The hours spent in the barn working or arguing over the littlest things with her always tend to pay off. My background for showing started when I was 4 years old. I started off showing pigs at jackpots and slowly over the years, I started showing on the national stage. My first big win was at my first ever major show when I was 7 years old with my barrow named “TP” that was 4th overall crossbred barrow at the 2014 World Pork Expo. And from there my career started taking off in the pig world winning many jackpots, divisions/ breeds at majors, and many top 5 appearances in the Iowa state fair barrow show. Our family has been very fortunate & blessed in the show ring not only in the ring but also stand ringside and watch our family show the Grand Overall Purebred Gilt at the 2018 World Pork Expo, along with the 3rd Overall Team Purebred Gilt in the same year, from even breeding and raising the 2020 Grand Duroc Gilt/Reserve Grand Overall Gilt at the Exposition which Payton Rodgers exhibited and forever grateful for her and her family for taking a chance with us! Standing ringside and watching someone else have success with something you produced has been one of the biggest

accomplishments we have been a part of and forever grateful for. In 2016 at the age of 10, I decided I wanted to start showing at the local level and then I started to venture into some jackpots. As the years continued my family started to win more shows and in 2020 my sister was 5th Overall steer at the Iowa State Fair. Then that fall when we started looking for calves, we set some goals and when we went out to look, I knew that when “Chuck” showed up that he was going to help me accomplish many of my goals. I remember the day he came to like it was yesterday and when he showed up Joe Herr said, “Tracy said he was going to be the KC or Louisville champion.” For Tracy Goretska to say something like that I knew he was going to be pretty special. We showed “Chuck” at almost every jackpot show this past winter and spring and won his breed many times and was in the top 5 almost every time. As the summer continued, we just let him grow and mature until it was time to put him in the cooler. That is when everything started to come together the early mornings before school and late nights started. As the months passed and the days leading up to Louisville came closer it seemed at times if we had enough or had done enough to get “Chuck” to the coveted spot in one of the most prestigious showings I have ever had the chance to show in! Showing livestock & judging has always been my sport, I appreciate every opportunity that has been given to me throughout my career! There are so many people to thank that have taught me so much over the years and don’t know if I will ever be able to thank them enough! Can’t wait to continue my showing career for the years I have left remaining along with helping other kids across the country! Until then I’m going to soak up this once-in-a- lifetime dream and stay driven and humble!
