My name is Kallie Whitley. I am 14 years old and grew up in Yorkville, Wisconsin. This fall, I will be starting my freshman year at Union Grove High School. Outside of school, I enjoy playing sports and spending time on our family farm, where I have developed a strong passion for working with cattle. This year, I had the incredible opportunity to exhibit the Grand Champion Market Steer at the Wisconsin State Fair with my steer, Shadow, who came from May Cattle Company. Winning the Wisconsin State Fair has always been one of my biggest goals, making this accomplishment something I will never forget. I started my show career when I was 10 years old. From the very beginning, I set a goal for myself to become the best version of myself that I could be
and to always work as hard as possible to reach my goals. What started as a hobby quickly became something that has shaped who I am today. Showing cattle has taught me much more than how to show an animal. It has taught me important life lessons about hard work, perseverance, dedication, responsibility, patience, and learning from both success and failure. Over the years, I have learned that success in the show ring doesn’t happen overnight. It takes countless hours of practice, preparation, and attention to detail. It means showing up even when you’re tired, continuing to work when things don’t go as planned, and constantly looking for ways to improve. The time I have spent working with my cattle has taught me the importance of setting goals and putting in the effort necessary to achieve them.
This year, we knew there was a lot of potential in our cattle, and with that potential came a lot of pressure and expectations. Reaching our goals required more hard work and dedication than ever before. There were late nights, early mornings, long days at the barn, and plenty of moments when I had to push myself beyond what was comfortable. There were challenges along the way, but each one gave me an opportunity to learn, grow, and become a better showman. In the end, all the blood, sweat, and tears paid off. Winning the Wisconsin State Fair was always a goal of mine, and this year, we were fortunate enough to achieve it. But I know this accomplishment was never something I achieved alone.
