and WTAMU can offer a low- cost tuition for an exceptional education. “We give you twice the education for half of the cost” Kieth said. “We are financially feasible, and our quality of education is very high level. There is data there that shows it.” In the 2022 academic year, the Department of Agricultural Sciences offered $531,598 in scholarships to 120 students. Kieth expressed the importance of getting involved on campus and stepping out of your comfort zone. The department offers student organizations such as Collegiate Farm Bureau, Agronomy Club, Block & Bridle, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Collegiate FFA, and Agribusiness club. Outside of organizations, other opportunities are available to get involved such as study abroad

programs. Last year, 22 students and five faculty members traveled a total of 18,163 miles across the globe. The department is well recognized for their competitive teams and the success that precedes them. Livestock judging, meats judging, horse judging, equestrian, ranch horse team and rodeo provide students with valuable knowledge and experiences that aid in improving life skills as well as career readiness. “Meat judging has allowed me to gain knowledge of the U. S. meat industry, create connections across the nation and made me become more active in my university resulting in numerous lifelong friends,” said Caleb Olfers, a junior animal science major and member of the meats judging team.

Canyon, Texas is surrounded by some of the most fertile land in the U. S. “In terms of uniqueness, I think it is the immersion in the agriculture industry and our students being able to spend time in that,” Kieth said while explaining the advantages of WTAMU. The university utilizes the location it is in by inviting industry leaders to connect with students for a more real-world agriculture experience. The Texas Panhandle leads the nation in dairy, beef, corn, and sorghum production, granting students several avenues of agriculture to learn from in a close vicinity to campus.
