the industry that I didn’t know I was missing out on. From shipping me across the nation to work on some cool little animals to give me some spectacular people that I am lucky to have in my life to this day. The influence of the Junior advisors that I had with my time on the junior board meant more to me than anything as well. Lindsey and Riley both deserve the world and taught me more about myself than most can figure out in a lifetime and that goes to show with the improvement of my character over the 4 years that I spent with them. A recent addition to this list that many know is Mr. Brandon Callis with the introduction of the Influence group to the collegiate and high school age group of kids in the changing of my faith and eye-opening thoughts that he has taught through the name of the Lord. The reshaping and structuring of the way that I am willing to look at things that happen in my life and the ability to ask pressing questions in an area without judgement is something that I didn’t know I needed till every Wednesday at 8 PM for the past few months. There is a long list of other thank you’s to be written but that is for another day. Show cows has ran my life for most of the time but if you don’t catch me driving around looking at my cows, I am on the lake fishing for bass in local club tournaments or sneaking in 18 holes of golf during my travels. Retirement is never supposed to taste sweet but retiring from my junior career has opened new hallways into not only the cattle side of things for me but also the business side. Being able to use the connections that I made along my journey and bring the opportunities and ideas into the future of pursuing a career to fund my addiction of show cows, bass boats, and reaching a 300 yard carry. Looking forward to a new portion of my life and my cow herd I plan on using the animals that I have spent
the last 15 years to my advantage and trying to create an incredibly deep herd. While putting eggs out of some of the best cows in our herd is important if I can have a herd that is uniformly as good as I can make them no matter what the breed of cattle are I would be the happiest person in the world. Trying to create the best females and bulls that fit into multiple situations of competing in the show ring and running around the paddocks of southwestern Iowa to make productive high-end livestock that can go to work for not only me but also the customers that have and will buy cattle from us in the future. As many know I am passionate about the pursuit of herd sires and making animals that do not fit into the norm of the show ring nowadays is something that the 2023 show season has led me into now. Trying to make Cross Maine shows sires that make a difference in consistency and bring what Maine Anjou cattle are known for, while having a genetic package that makes you read it twice and the look to make you want to come by the stalls again. Aside from my crippling idealism and pursuit of making herd sires, the idea of having a bred heifer sale came across my mind a few years ago and is coming to fruition this December with the first live sale that I will be having. Selling bred females of my operation and the cooperation of my cousin Charley Cull in northeast Nebraska we are putting together females to do exactly what I have dreamt of to make the consumers happy and hopeful about their purchases. Passion is something that I am grateful enough to not lack in my fruitful life and it won’t stop if I could show the livestock that I have produced to as many people as I possibly can. When it comes to get a big boy job, I have been lucky enough to immerse myself into a few businesses and travel along with some mentors and
realize that a passion lies within being a man of the people and being able to advertise what other people are proud of creating. I would like to one day operate a marketing agency for whatever passion I happen to fall in. Obviously with the love of cattle, I would enjoy and want to make it a living but regardless of what I think there is no telling what is in the cards for me and my hopes of being there not only for my cattle consumers but also for the future of what I want to make it in the marketing business. In a perfect world with perfect ties, I would love to help show, seedstock, and commercial producers get the most out of their cattle and show the world what lies within some of the cracks and crevices within the United States. This certain passion and interest come due part to the eye- opening experiences that a dear friend and person I look up to Mr. Graham Blagg for bringing me along for some of the adventures on the road leading me to what I would love to see myself doing in the future. There is no lack of words when it comes to me being me as many know, but for now there is nothing to hold back on in the world I have surrounded myself in. Being able to walk around in this day and age, I am given things to look forward to and appreciate is something that many dream of and I am lucky enough to live in said situation. Take the opportunity or lose the chance, there is nothing stopping you from your dreams and the endless pursuit of persistence. Take the time to do what matters to you and never allow yourself to quit. Be your own kind of weird, show fullbloods, have a goofy golf swing, drive with your left foot, or whatever makes you your own kind of weird because normal doesn’t get you anywhere. Work hard, don’t suck. Don’t light yourself on fire to keep others warm. There is nothing that you can’t do so let me tell you to start now and never look back. ●
