Favorite quote: Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted. – David Bly In the dusty feed room of our thirty- year-old show barn is dry erase board. Earlier this year, I wiped off the cobwebs and dust and wrote out three goals for the coming summer because a goal not written down is simply a wish. Two of those goals were to Champion Bred and Owned and Champion Owned Chi Composite and Maintainer heifer honors at junior nationals. I thought I had a heifer good enough to make a run at those honors in “Linda” or Harkers Trixie 0105 M101 ET as she’s known in the breed registries. Her dam, Cell Trixie 0105H, had a very successful

show career with major wins at the North American Livestock Expo and Cattlemen’s Congress, and I thought Linda had enough similarities to her mother that she could also have success in the showring. To realize my goals and walk away from a highly competitive junior national with three Grand Champion banners, one Reserve Grand Champion banner and Champion Maine Anjou Senior Showman with a heifer that was born in that thirty- year-old show barn is a humbling and awesome experience. What made it sweeter is that I got to do with my parents, older brother, all four grandparents, and some of my best friends by my side. I will never take this experience for granted and I will continue to write down my goals. ●
