Sept/Oct 2023 Fall Edition

M y name is Simon Thoreson from Knoxville, Iowa. I am currently a junior in high school. I have been involved in many activities growing up, but my passion has always been showing heifers. I have 3 older siblings that have helped me grow into the person I am today. I am extremely thankful to have such a supporting family. My dad grew up on a turkey farm and mom on a grain farm. Neither of them were involved in showing livestock. This led to my family and I relying on many kind and caring people this industry has to offer. These people taught us and guided us to where we are today, and it is mind blowing for my family to see how far we have come.

Growing up in this industry is one of the things I am most thankful for. I love everything about it, the competition, the people, and most importantly the lessons I have learned throughout the years. My brother, Reece, and I have learned you can always work harder and it takes daily dedication to become successful. This summer we sure put those lessons to a test. Working on multiple heifers that compete at the highest level is something Reece and I have dreamt of. We embraced the grind this summer and it led us to success. My family and I have shown at the Iowa State Fair for as long as I can remember. So to win it, it was truly an unbelievable moment. It is a moment I will never forget and will forever cherish with friends and family. ■
