Nov/Dec 2021 Year End Edition

“Legacy is not leaving something for people, it is leaving something in people.” - Peter Strople Luke and Chase have been fortunate enough to exhibit cattle in the Angus, Hereford, and Simmental breeds on the state and national levels. They are not strangers to the winner’s circle. Both have won Grand Champion Simmental Steer honors at the 2018 and 2019 AJSA National Classics. Both have also had junior national level showmanship victories; Chase as Junior Champion Showman at the 2018 JNHE and Luke as Intermediate Champion Showman at the 2020 AJSA National Classic. 2021 has been a special year for the duo. Luke was named Overall Champion Showman at the Hoosier Beef Congress and won Grand Champion Purebred Cow Calf at the 2021 AJSA National Classic. Chase had top five finishes at the Indiana State Fair Open and 4-H shows and went on to win Supreme Bull and Supreme Female at the 2021 World Beef Expo. The year has proven to be the most memorable to date. Family is the key to the success. We are fortunate that our parents and grandparents wanted to make this life for us. The countless hours spent behind a windshield, the late nights, the pre-dawn mornings,

emphasis of long-term service for that generation and the generations to come. Both of us were actively involved with junior beef breed associations, attending and building our love of cattle through state and junior national shows. Dan served on the American Junior Simmental Association (AJSA) Board of Trustees, and Jill served on the National Junior Angus Association Board of Directors. Luke currently serves on the AJSA Board of Trustees, and Chase also aspires to serve on a junior board in the future. Dan exhibited his first Simmental heifer in 1986, learning a lot about cattle and life. He surrounded himself with good people who shared their wisdom and knowledge. By 1995, the hard

work and education paid off. Dan exhibited the Grand Champion Female at the 1995 and 1996 AJSA National Classics with the female in 1995 garnering many Grand Champion banners. Jill led her first Angus steer into a sale ring at age five. Actively involved in the National Junior Angus Association, Jill competitively exhibited at state and national shows. Jill firmly believes in the foundation of adult and junior breed associations and the steadfast investment they provide for the next generation of cattle men and women. Jill is a former Miss American Angus and her mother was the first Miss American Angus in 1968. The strong traditions and rich heritage of the generations before us are what continue to keep junior beef programs active and alive today.
