working hair and making sure everything looks its best. This past year was extra special for me, I was online the entire spring semester of my senior year, so I was at the barn 24/7 and there was this one steer in the barn Tyrone that made being in the barn even better. I worked extra hard all year to maybe have a chance of a banner for the two of us since it would be my last chance at State Fair and made sure we did everything in power to get it done. Hard work, dedication, prayers and never giving up can pay off tremendously in the end and it sure did for me on the October 6th when I received the champion slap at the Tulsa State Fair. I couldn’t have gained so much knowledge or success without all the people in my corner reminding me every day to not give up and to continue to work hard. They all pushed me to a level that I couldn’t have been at by myself, and I will never be able to thank any of them enough. •

Hi! I’m Laney Lawson , a freshman at Redlands Community College and the daughter of David and Beth Lawson of Newcastle, Oklahoma. Growing up my sister Ryley and I only showed goats which was good time when I was finally old enough to work on them without anyone being out there with me but I wanted something more than just goats so I began to ask my dad if I could show steers and his answer was always ”maybe one day”. Then I happened to ask him right before the summer of my freshman year of high school; surprisingly he told me yes, so that summer I started working with and showing for Bonham Show Cattle. I wasn’t sure how it was going to end up being the only girl in the barn, but it sure made me work even harder to earn my keep and I think I did just that. I was able to gain 4 big brothers that showed me the way to success, if I wasn’t at school, I was in the barn working on steers and helping get everything done. You could always find me on the wash rack or in the cooler
