May/June 2021 Junior National Edition

where I served as National Maine-Anjou Princess in 2019-2020. My future goal is to become a member of the Junior Board and wear that blue jacket. Connor’s favorite show is the Ohio State Fair, but we both agree we loved the new Cattleman’s Congress. We both show other species at our county fair. I show market lambs, and Connor is going back to showing market hogs. We are both very competitive and work hard, but we cheer each other on. Don’t get me wrong, we can have some epic barn battles, but when one of us hits a goal we have or gets a banner, we are super excited. My favorite memory in the ring is a toss up between two events. Winning the Ohio State Fair MaineTainer show in 2018 was incredible. But I love showmanship, so placing 3rd overall last year at Junior Nationals was pretty amazing too! Connor says his favorite moment was winning a division at Junior Nationals. We all laughed as he went to shake hands with Dr. Duello. Connor just had pins removed from his arm and was in a sling, and Dr. Duello was on the microphone giving reasons, so it took them a minute to figure out how to shake! Our farm also keeps life interesting for us. A few years ago, in November, my show heifer, Anna, got out and decided to explore. This usually would not have been a big deal, but she wandered onto our pool deck and tried to walk on the pool cover. She, of course, ended up swimming, but we managed to pull her out! We did have to repair the pool, but man, that cold chlorine water sure made her hair pop! Those who know us understand these crazy things happen ALL THE TIME! Mom is very active in the Ohio shows. Seven years ago, she and Lindsay Bennet started the Southern Ohio Showdown. It is a nine-show fall feeder calf circuit. Each year the participation has been increasing. Last year, the Southern Ohio Showdown, with help from their generous sponsor, awarded over $40,000 worth of end-of- the year prizes. Awarding prizes is Mom's favorite part of putting on a show series! She starts buying awards in February for the November banquet. “At the January meeting of our shows, I remind the committees
