The first National Junior Heifer Show was held in 1969. This year marks the 53rd National Junior Angus Show.
This year the Phenotype and Genotype Show (PGS) will again be held at the National Junior Angus Show. The results will be a composite score where the genotype EPD placings and phenotype placings will be equally weighted at fifty percent. The National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest is the most coveted showmanship contest as junior members have to compete at a state level first and can only participate once in their career. From 1967 until 1973 the National Showmanship Contest was held in conjunction with the American Angus Breeders’ Futurity in Kentucky. In 1974 it was moved from that event to be held in conjunction with the National Junior Heifer Show.
