May/June 2021 Junior National Edition

to see at shows. This past year I have been able to help my Dad and some others by fitting and getting the cattle ready which has added a fun new aspect to attending shows. It meant a lot to me to do well at the Oklahoma Youth Expo. Due to COVID and so many things being cancelled, I was able to spend more time than ever in the barn with my heifers and steers. I also felt very fortunate to be able to show my steer this year at OYE since the market shows had to be canceled last year. I feel very lucky to have had

success with both my heifers and my steer this year. The OYE is one of the toughest junior livestock shows in the country and we have many competi- tive families that show here in Okla- homa. I am thankful for my family and everyone that helps us at home at the barn and at the shows. I also want to thank the breeders of my cattle and those that sold the heifers and steer to me. It is a team effort to be successful and I am lucky to have a great team helping me. •

My name is Kelton Arthur and I am a Ripley 4-H member. I have been showing steers and heifers from the county to the national level for five years. I have been involved in the cattle industry from birth. My Dad owns and operates Lucky Strike Show Cattle in Stillwater, OK. We raise and sell show heifers and steers to families across the country and I really enjoy getting to be a part of the show cattle industry. I like attending shows where I get to meet new people and hang out with those friends that I only get

My name is Kennedy Arthur and this was my first year showing cattle at the Oklahoma Youth Expo. As a proud Ripley 4-H member, I showed a Shorthorn Plus Heifer, a Charolais Composite Heifer that I raised and a Hereford Steer. I was really lucky to have two Breed Champions and a Reserve Breed Champion. I got to ride in the limo in the Grand Drive, which was really cool, especially since my brother got to ride in the limo too. My family works together on our cattle and I have lots of help from my brother, Dad and Mom and all the guys at the barn and the shows. I love showing cattle and making new friends at the shows, it’s really fun but also a lot of work. OYE is a really tough show so I feel very lucky to have done well my first year. I am thankful to my Dad for working so hard to make sure our cattle look good and to the people who raised and sold my heifer and steer to us. •
