INFO ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Based out of Northeast Indiana, the current Churubusco Livestock Judging program was started in 2009 by Trinna Keener and later joined by alum Colton Geiger in 2015. These two coach the team together and are grateful to give back to a program that they both collegiately competed in. “Our goal is to teach youth how to evaluate livestock, represent themselves with integrity and understand that it takes hard work and grit to be successful not only on a state but national level”. The program has captured national victories at Denver, Kansas City, and most recently Louisville where the team consisting of Devyn Gaff, Remi Earnhart, McKenna Sobasky, and James Earnhart took home the High Team Overall honors. They were the high team overall by 38 pts, high team reasons, high team cattle, high team performance cattle, 4th team in hogs, and 4th team in sheep. ■

DEVYN GAFF 9TH HIGH INDIVIDUAL OVERALL, 3RD REASONS, 1ST CATTLE, 5TH PERFORMANCE CATTLE “I started judging when I was in 5th grade and was a part of the Churubusco team for all 8 years. My team was always very big on goals and winning National contests was always on our list. After winning Denver and Kansas City, NAILE was at the top of that list. It was certainly amazing to accomplish our goal this year! Livestock judging has allowed me to meet so many new people, travel all over the country and learn a lot of life skills. It also led me to Texas, where I am now a freshman at Blinn College. It’s always humbling to reflect on how livestock judging has affected my life, and none of it would’ve been possible without our amazing coaches, Trinna and Colton!”

JAMES EARNHART 21ST HIGH INDIVIDUAL OVERALL, 15TH REASONS, 7TH CATTLE

“I started judging at around age 5 in at summer type and expo contests. I started with this team when I was in 3rd grade. Winning NAILE means to me... I got to do what many people don’t get to do. It has always been my goal to win this contest and I am so excited that my dream came true. I still have goals for down the road, I hope to get to come back to NAILE and mark cards two more times on the collegiate level! Being involved in judging has allowed me to meet new people from all across the country and build friendships and connections that will last a lifetime. Evaluating livestock is a family thing something we do on a daily basis. I simply love sorting stock!”
