n a cold, rainy evening after a full day’s work, we pulled into the county show with about an hour to spare before the steers had to be in place. We walked in the barn to find our stalls. Everyone else seemed to be set up and settled in, but we still had lots of work to do. We backed the trailer up to the barn and carried in the first few bags of shavings. Our barn neighbor, a little ten-year-old boy who had a couple friends with him, jumped up to help us. Those three young kids carried shavings and started making our stalls. They already had a hose set up and by the time we had the rest of the trailer unloaded, our stalls were made, and we could get our steer unloaded and fed. What a relief. Those kids made the most dreaded part of going to a show so much easier on us, and we didn’t even ask for help. Jesus is just as eager to help lift our spiritual burdens if we will just go to him with our troubles. In Matthew 11:28-30 , Jesus teaches us, 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn

from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Jesus is talking about spiritual burdens. When we are hurting, worried, or anxious about anything, Jesus is there to bring us peace, love and comfort. Jesus promises rest for our souls if we will take him our troubles. He is not saying that our lives will be perfect and easy. He is not saying that we won’t have to physically work hard. He is saying that if we follow his guidelines in the Bible and go to Him with our troubles, our hearts will be healed. When we focus on God, it changes our perspective. Remembering that God sent his Son to die for our sins makes our day to day problems seem small. When you are feeling overwhelmed with life, take your burdens to Jesus. He is there for you. Also remember that Jesus taught us to love one another; so if you see someone who could use some help, lend a hand. You never know what a difference it can make. •
