judge. In our minds the purpose of stock shows has always been to advertise our product as breeders, highlight the cattle industry and also train and promote ag youth. What we have learned from that for sure has an impact in how all of us that judge try to balance all these things and talk about then select our favorite animal. THREE What an exciting question! If we were going to build the perfect steer we would for sure begin the project from the ground up. He would have a well shaped and solid foot along with the structural integrity and flexibility to get out and strut his stuff around the show ring or the feedlot. Next we would have to talk about bone. There’s something about an animal that carries just a shot more bone that says durable, rugged and fun IF YOU COULD BUILD THE PERFECT STEER, WHAT WOULD HE LOOK LIKE?
ONE WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST AT THE ILLINOIS STATE FAIR? First and foremost, we are looking forward to working with the young people. In our minds the state of Illinois has always turned out incredible young people that have consistently become leaders in agriculture. Next would have to be the quality of cattle that we will evaluate. Again, Illinois has always had some of the best livestock in the industry. Especially when it comes to show cattle. TWO YOU BREED AND SHOW SOME OF THE TOP CATTLE IN THE INDUSTRY. HOW WILL WHAT YOU DO AT HOME INFLUENCE HOW YOU JUDGE THE ILLINOIS STATE FAIR? We both think that what has worked for us at home in terms of of major successes and failures evolves into life lessons that we learn from and that definitely spills over into our cattle selection decisions as we
