GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS.
I recently had the pleasure of being a judge for the interview and sales talk contests at the Charolais Junior Nationals in Belton. It was so rewarding to watch the kids put themselves out there, even though they were nervous and scared. As expected, there was a wide range of proficiency. Some kids came in and knocked our socks off, and some kids were absolutely terrified and struggled to get through it. For the kids that struggled, it was almost heartbreaking to me that I couldn’t just use that time to help them and teach them on how to improve. Those kids were just one mentor away from being great. The kids that were great obviously had wonderful coaches. We are taught in Matthew 28:18-23 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I
am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Jesus is telling his disciples that it is their job to go and teach, making more disciples. It is not just a request, but a command. This passage is called the Great Commission. We are not supposed to keep what we have been taught to ourselves. The whole point is for us to go out and spread the knowledge to those that do not know Him. The disciples doubted themselves and felt like they weren’t qualified, but Jesus chose them knowing that the struggles they had faced would make them better equipped to reach people. When we share about the times we failed or the times that were difficult and came out on the other side, it makes others realize they can too. Take the time to find a good mentor if you need one. If you have the experience to be a mentor, find someone to help, and if you can teach them a little about Jesus while you’re at it, even better. ●
