My name is Beth Ann McDermott , and I grew up in the small southwest Iowa town of Treynor.
We lived on a farm outside of Treynor until I was around 11. My dad had passed away from cancer at that time and the farm became too much for myself, mom, and sister so we moved to town.

I became involved in 4-H in 3rd grade, and I showed cattle
and enjoyed refinishing furniture for fair. I had a love for Shorthorn cattle and a good friend, Roger Applegate with Brentwood Shorthorns, would sell me heifers and steers to show. After my father passed and we had to sell all of my shorthorn heifers, I wasn’t sure I would have the opportunity to show cattle anymore, but being from a small town and having close friends that were willing to help me, I was able to show until I graduated.
