August 2021 State Fair Edition

enjoyable to evaluate cattle at a competitive show with someone you respect, and I am looking forward to judging the 2022 Cattlemen’s Congress Steer Show with Shane Bedwell. three What will be your approach to judging the Steer Show at the 2021 Colorado State Fair? My approach is always the same, I will be looking for the best combination and balance of traits, muscle, structure, and correctness of finish. It’s always impressive to see the presentation of the animals, but I truly enjoy looking for the best animal no matter how they are presented. four If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be? Enjoy the process. Showing a market animal is a process - you pick them out, show them some, all the while keeping them eating and gaining. Showing heifers has it’s own somewhat similar process, but then starts the process of getting and keeping them in production. No matter the outcome at the stock show,

be proud of your work and dedication to that animal and enjoy the process! five Why is Agriculture and the Livestock Show Industry so important to you? This is an industry that involves our entire family. I am a 3rd generation cattleman, and my wife is a 5th generation cattleman. We take great pride knowing we have both been involved in our families businesses and our children will be involved as well. We enjoy working with 4-H and FFA members, helping these kids show and raise their own cattle gives us a sense of fulfillment and pride that we are passing our knowledge to the next generation. We are thankful to have been born and bred for this industry, and we can pass this down to our sons. six What are your goals for the future? My goal is to continue building a program for our family and continue the legacy that both sides of my family have built.
