August 2021 State Fair Edition

are hot and heifers go in early and are turned out late in the evening. Kelton and Kennedy are very lucky to have a team of people that help make sure that the heifers always look their best. Tyler Atwood has been with our family for a long time and he helps make certain heifers are on track to look their best for Junior Nationals and all other shows. Garett Stipe and Nick Roach are also an important part of our team that help in multiple ways both at home and on show day. There is no question it is a team effort, especially when we take several head. Jerrod is a big part of the kid’s success making sure they have quality animals to start with and that they are clipped to perfection. Each year Kelton has been able to be a little bit more of the fitting process which makes showing and doing well even more special. This year Kelton took five head to Chi/Maine Junior Nationals and had an exciting week. The most exciting was being selected as Grand Champion Maine Anjou Female Overall with his heifer “Sage”. Sage has been a wonderful heifer for us and we were really glad to have the chance to buy her

from the McCollom family last year. It was great to have them and others cheering Kelton on during the show. Kennedy took one heifer to Shorthorn Junior Nationals and her heifer, “Lenny” had a great day being selected as Reserve Grand ShorthornPlus Female. We are very appreciative of Jake Nikkel for letting us buy Lenny as a calf and all his help during Junior Nationals. We couldn’t have made it without him and his family.

Kennedy love showing cattle, but they also love the friendships that they have made both in and out of the show ring. Junior Nationals was the final show for Kelton’s heifer, so she is doing her job to become a cow now and Kennedy is looking forward to some more shows this fall with Lenny. Kelton and Jerrod have already been out looking at new heifers for the next show season and we look forward to hopefully attending Junior Nationals in 2022. •
