My name is Brody Scroggins, I am a Sophomore at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. I am from Moore, Oklahoma and attended Tuttle High School. Both of my parents were heavily involved in agriculture, which allowed me to get started at a young age. I have spent many years in the livestock industry as I grew up showing sheep and competing in livestock judging contests. My family has always been very supportive of my sister and I’s endeavors. I was fortunate to be on an extremely competitive livestock judging team during my time at Tuttle. My teammates and I were named the High Team Overall at the National Western Stock Show and the National FFA Contest in Indianapolis, Indiana. I was coached by CL McGill,
who set the foundation for me to judge at a higher level in college. McGill has been very influential during my judging career and will always serve as a role model for me. At the conclusion of my time in high school, I toured many junior colleges across the country, yet found my home in El Dorado, Kansas at Butler Community College. I was fortunate to have a great set of teammates and a coach that would push me to achieve my goals. Taylor Frank, Cal Schultz, and Caleb Edens taught me so much more than what it takes to be successful as an individual in a judging contest. They all played a role in helping me to become a better stockman rather than just an evaluator who places livestock in contests.
The National Western has always been an event that my family and I look forward to each year. While I do enjoy livestock judging, my true passion is being in the sheep barn helping my little sister and other families. Competing in the judging contest at Denver this year meant I was disappointed I wasn’t able to watch my sister in the ring and help her outside of the ring. But it all paid off in the end, when the days of being in the van, judging classes, and talking sets, resulted in me being named the High Individual. ●
