It’s a family tradition and a passion our family shares. Brylie Benes (12) of Pierce, NE exhibited the Grand Champion Female at the Cheyeanne Livestock Expo. Her and her sister Brenna Benes (14) love showing cattle, meeting new people, and enjoy hanging out with their friends at Cattle Shows. Growing up showing and working along her parents, Kevin and Laura Benes, is part of a family tradition and spending time with each other. “To us it’s always been a family project, whether it’s going to a cattle show,

calving cows, or working on sale cattle. Our girls are a big part of our company (Gateway Genetics), as they are involved in every part of the process throughout the year. We start the year out by all four of us living in a one room bunkhouse, calving cows together January through March. The girls love being out there and they learn a lot. As our AI heifer projects start, Brylie spends a lot of time on a horse helping me heat check cattle throughout spring. We are plenty busy all winter and spring, so we don’t get to a bunch of cattle shows over that time.”

Brylie has followed in Brenna’s footsteps; however, this year has kind of been her year. For the past two years Brenna has exhibited the supreme heifer at the Cornhusker Showdowns, Brylie’s big goal was to make it there this year with her heifer “Roxie”. Roxie has been that heifer that has been that one animal that helped Brylie build confidence throughout the year. Together they have had an incredible year being named Supreme Champion at several shows including meeting Brylie’s goal of winning the 2025 Cornhusker Showdown. Together they went on to

win Champion Simmental heifer at Nebraska State Fair and Res Simmental Heifer at the American Royal Jr. show, and their latest Supreme at the Cheyenne Livestock Expo. “The Cheyenne Show is our favorite show of the year. We have met so many great people there and are very thankful for the work they put into the show. “The whiskey Barrel is my favorite prize I has won” Brylie says. It just something not everyone gets to win at a show.” ●
