March/April 2022 Sire Edition

Every win is special, but to win Fort Worth is BIG TIME! There are so many factors that go into getting the champion slap. Tristan Himes, a seventeen-year-old from Sterling City, Texas accomplished just that as he ended the 2022 Fort Worth Stock Show on a high note, exhibiting the Grand Champion Steer. A steer that won the same honors just weeks before at the Cattlemen's Congress. Himes is no stranger to the show ring. His family has been raising and selling show calves for three generations. His entire life has revolved around the cattle industry. When he hit third grade and was eligible to show, he took to the ring. When asked about his recent success in Fort Worth, you could tell how much the honor meant to both Tristan and his family. "All of those long, hard years really came together for us! Everything we have done for so long paid off for my family. My family has helped me with everything. None of this would be possible without them. They all put so much in and helped me so much, I'm just very thankful that it all came together. "It just seemed like everything went right with

that calf. I always thought he was a real good one. He was a good boy too - he never caused any trouble. Fort Worth is incredibly hard to win. You can take one that you thought might be good enough and not win. It just all must come together the right way. There are so many good ones and to win you must have one that really really acts right too, because there is a whole lot of stuff that gets them pressured up for some reason. Everything went super smooth with that one in both Oklahoma City and Fort Worth. Nothing makes me nervous like the Fort Worth Steer Show. But that calf, at least I knew he was going to show right. So, I was more confident than I had been ever before at Fort Worth." Coming off the big win in Fort Worth, Tristan was incredibly humbled and thankful for the moment. "I for sure want to thank anyone who has ever helped me! My uncle, Kevin, cousins, Dakota and Flint, my mom, Kody, and my stepdad, Lonnie, when we go off to the show and have more in the barn, he feeds them and makes sure everything is fine. Very blessed."
