March/April 2022 Sire Edition

and help us with our first National show. We came away with reserve division and hired Cole to come to manage our farm full time and we haven’t looked back since. Now we show at most majors throughout the year and have two online sales a year with one in April & one in October. Our sale heifers have been very successful in Tennessee & Virginia where most of our customers are. We decided as long as Little Rob was still competing, we would sell everything we raise and continue to buy for him and help grow our cow herd. So, when we set out to find last year's show string, we hit the road to look at all we could and one of our stops is always to see Scott & Andrew Foster at Seldom Rest Farms to see what they have to offer. We have bought several from them in the past and hoped we might find another one we had to have. We looked at their entire sale offering

and saw several we had an interest in, but the June wasn’t one of them because of her being so small at the time. But a few months went by, and it was time for their annual sale in October. I had to be at a wedding and couldn’t make it up there so Cole & Little Rob went up to Niles, Mi and when they got there the June was an added Lot “X” and they both called saying they think she was the one. So, we bought her that night and they brought her to her new home in Tennessee and got to work. Early on we were pretty excited to watch her grow and do all the right things. Her first show was Cattlemen's Congress 2021 in OKC she came away with a class win both days and kept getting a little better each time out. She Was reserve division at Atlantic Nationals, won her division at Jr Nationals & was reserve division at The American Royal in MO (where one of our other

heifers Stag 41H was named Reserve Grand Champion on Junior Day which was huge for us). Then came Louisville and a decision to keep her home. We had several sale heifers and a few of our own to take and that had never been to a show, so we decided to leave the big heifers at the house. Then came Cattlemen's Congress 2022 and we had her ready but before we leave for any show Cole & myself go through the heifers and kind of set out expectations for each one of them. I don’t think either one of us expected to Win what we did. I remember saying if we could get a piece of division with either big heifer, I would be happy with that. So, when she went out on the open day and won her division, I was pretty excited. Then when we went out and was named Grand Champion Angus I was blown away. Lots of emotions go through you when something that big

happens it’s very surreal. All the work, long hours, preparation & had paid off and we had surpassed our goals for the year. So, when we went back in a few days later we all were just happy to be participating and had no intentions of being named Supreme Heifer but once again we got the slap and that just took it over the top! It takes a while for it to set in as the new guy to go out and have such a great week in OKC. But now it’s time to start focusing on the rest of this year's shows, our customers and get our fall borns ready for our sale in April. I can’t thank everyone enough for all they do and be on the lookout for future sales, we would love to work with you and your families on your future show cattle. I don’t know how many or if we will ever have a weekend like we did at Cattlemen's Congress 2022, but I know it’s an experience we will never forget. •
