My name is Kirby Eaves with Eaves Show Cattle. My wife Kelsi and our daughters Lennyn (3), and Shaefer (1) live in Stephenville, Texas where I grew up. At this years Houston Livestock Show we were fortunate enough to be a part of having the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Steers. I grew up showing pigs before getting started with steers my junior year in high school. It was at this point I knew I had found my passion. I changed my plans for after high school of going to Texas Tech University and attended Blinn Junior College before transferring to Texas A&M University. This was so I could have the opportunity to work for Bobby Maddox in Hempstead, Texas who had helped my family during my senior year of high school. He had a huge role in molding my future and I will forever be grateful for him. During my final year at Texas A&M I started selling my first set of show steers. After graduating college, I freelanced my for a year before moving to Anson, Texas to work with Brandon Horn. For the next 4 and a half years I was able to grow my business under his guidance. My time there with Brandon and his family was priceless, not only did I get a good education of the business, but we also grew to be family. In 2017 I moved back to Stephenville Texas; this is where we operate Eaves Show Cattle. We primarily trade, but also raise a few show steers. We were able to accomplish having Grand and Reserve Grand Champions steers in San Antonio 2017 as well, with two calves we raised with the late Bryan Robbins. We are so fortunate to have some of the very best people influencing us and loyal families in our corner. We strive to build relationships and maintain those while helping these families work towards meeting their goals. This is where our big win in Houston gets special! We were able to accomplish this along side some of the finest people we have backing us. I purchased the
Champion Simmental/Overall Grand Champion from my mentor Brandon Horn who raised the calf. After I got the calf home one of my best friends Brent Cromwell came by and spoke for him. I delivered the calf to his place, and stumbled upon what would end up being the Champion Brangus/Reserve Grand Champion overall that Brent and Jon Ivy raised. We traded these two, calf for calf… I still can’t believe that part! From there the Grand made a tour, but ended up with the Benson family from San Angelo, Texas. We have been friends with the Benson’s for many years, but this was their first year to have calves from us. Blaize showed two calves, one won class 3 of the exotics in Fort Worth, and the other wins Houston. We could not be prouder for them and their accomplishments this year. The Reserve Grand Champion steer had a one-way ticket to Perryton, Texas with the Schickedanz family. I was introduced to them two years ago at Houston by the Blasingame’s. The Schickedanz’s had big dreams with not much time left for Maddie as she is a senior this year. She is the oldest of 3 kids, Jake is a freshman and Sydney is in the 6th grade. Maddie gave me one request for her last set of calves, that she wanted an American…she is the one that made this happen since I had no love for Americans and had never pursued them. With that, it was still easy for us to love this Brangus even before he went down in history as one of the few Americans to get a piece of a show. This has been a great opportunity to get to sell the Grand and Reserve Grand at Houston & I would like to give a special thanks to everyone that helped make this dream become a reality. My wife and kids, The Horn Family, The Cromwell Family, The Ivy Family, The Benson Family, The Schickedanz Family, The Blasingame Family, Kyle Tarter and Family & Trever Rosso. Thank yall will never be enough! ●
