All families have that one recipe that they hold close to their heart. For my family, that is Grandma’s Spaghetti. It was our go-to for Birthday dinners, special occasions or just for a random night of the week meal that you wanted something satisfying. From the time I was a little girl, I would love to spend time with my Grandma in the kitchen. She taught me so much and inspired my love for cooking. To this day, every time we make Grandma’s Spaghetti it is the best meal in the world!
GRANDMA’S SPAGHETTI
Laurie Reid with her Grandma Case
INGREDIENTS • 1 Large Onion, Diced • 1 lb Ground Beef • 1-2 Tbsp. Prepared Seasoning (Recipe Below) • 16 oz. Dried Spaghetti • 6 oz. Tomato Paste • Salt & Pepper to Taste
DIRECTIONS Prepare seasoning before you start. Dice a large onion and combine with ground beef in a large skillet. Salt and pepper to taste. And add a couple of teaspoons of prepared seasoning. Cook over medium heat until browned and cooked through (Once cooked leave to the side for later) Meanwhile bring a large 5qt. pot of water to boil following the spaghetti package instructions. Once boiling add one Tablespoon of salt and one Tablespoon of seasoning to boiling water then add the spaghetti. Boil for 7-8 min (the pasta won’t be completely cooked yet) ladle out at least three cups of the boiling water into a bowl or container and leave to the side in case you need in later. Drain out water till it covers the spaghetti in the pot by an inch or two and return to boil. Add the tomato paste and hamburger into the boiling water and continue to cook until the pasta is cooked through (this usually takes a little longer than the package instructions). You can add back the saved water a little at a time if it needs to cover the spaghetti more. You can add more of the spaghetti sauce seasoning to taste. My Grandma would always let this sit on the stove to let the now sauce on the spaghetti to thicken. Serve and enjoy. Makes for my favorite left overs.
