August 2022 State Fair Edition

lineup of show cattle, who were busy being prepared for a show the following day. She explained the process of washing and combing the calves’ long coats and how to buff and polish their horns. The majority of students on the trip were no strangers to world of showing cattle, but watching these cattle being groomed was a rather different experience. It was exciting to spot a few familiar Sullivan Supply products in and around the wash rack! In the same barn, Noble showed the class a bull owned by no other than her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We learned that in the United Kingdom one of the most competitive ‘stock show’ families, regardless of species, is the British royal family. As the trip came to an end, the class toured Scotland's capitol city of Edinburgh and spent additional time debriefing each visit and discussing the countries agriculture. Before departing the class spent an evening at “Taste of Scotland,” a five course dinner of traditional Scottish foods while experiencing the wonderful talents of Scottish dance, singing, and bagpipes. Naturally, ending a college semester and beginning a summer with a trip abroad would be exciting for any student. However, a travel course like this, hand-made specifically for students with an appreciation for purebred livestock, is unlike any trip this group had taken. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to see agriculture in a new light, network with others across the globe, and to experience life outside of the United States.
