August 2022 State Fair Edition

ello, my name is Ruby Bell. I am 17 years old and from Bristow, Oklahoma where my family and I run 450 head of cattle on our 1500 acre ranch. I have been showing cattle for the last 8 years competitively in Oklahoma and across the country. A couple weeks ago I had the extreme honor of exhibiting the Grand Champion Purebred Simmental Heifer at the American Junior Simmental Association National Classic in Madison, Wisconsin. It was so humbling to be named Grand at such a competitive show with the best showmen and Simmental breeders across the nation. The AJSA did a phenomenal job putting on the show from start to finish and my family and I had a great time. The facility at Madison is second to none and I look forward to showing there again. My heifer was purchased in the Conley Cattle 2021 Spring Sale as Lot 36. She was raised by the Lydell Meier family. She is a Profit x 3Aces Mignonne. Her dam was a very successful show heifer for the Meier family and her granddam was raised by the Conley family. I think it’s pretty special that she has made a full circle on the maternal side with three very successful heifers. Thank you to the Conley and Meier families for their support and trust in me! This win was even more special to me personally because this heifer, “Beth”, has been my baby from the start. I truly think it was meant to be for me to have her. She was pretty green when we first picked her up, but she had

lots of unique pieces and tons of potential. My family and I don’t currently have many head in the showbarn that we are actively working on, so Beth has gotten my full attention. We have a cool connection and I think it shows in and out of the showring. She has had a fun show career also winning the 2021 Tulsa State Fair Commercial Heifer and the Reserve Grand Open Simmental Heifer at the American Royal in 2021. We decided not to show her at the Oklahoma Youth Expo so that we could get her ready for Simmental Junior Nationals, and now we know that was a wise decision! She is due to calve in late September with her natural calf and we have several of her embryo calves in recips as well. I am very excited to see what her prodigy will do and continue to grow my herd with her genetics. When I’m not in the showring or in the barn, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love going to the lake and snow skiing. I am active in my youth group at Faith Baptist Church. In the fall I will be a Junior at Bristow High School. Currently, I am on the BHS Varsity Cheer team and I am very active in multiple leadership roles in my school including, Leadership Class, Yearbook, Leo Club, and Community Service activities. I also serve as the Secretary for the Bristow FFA Chapter.

Within the FFA, I love to attend camps, leadership conferences, conventions, and competitions. As a chapter officer, I like the challenge of getting students that typically aren’t “Ag kids” interested in all that the FFA has to offer and pushing them to become active in the program. After I graduate, I plan to go to Oklahoma State University. As we all know, showing cattle is definitely a team effort. We couldn’t do it without the one who takes care of all of the cows and the one who feeds for us while were gone, Wyatt Malone. Thank you Wyatt for all that you do for us! My family and I also spend a lot of time in the barn together. Sometimes we are breaking out in a dance party and sometimes we are yelling at each other and spraying water everywhere but we are usually together and I know I couldn’t do it without them. I know Abby, Tate, and Hadlie will always have my back and I am always thankful to have them! My parents, Steven & Julie, are the very best! They always push us to do our very best in everything we do and they are always my siblings and I’s loudest and proudest supporters! I am forever thankful to have the best parents a girl could ever ask for! Love my family to the moon and back and I couldn’t have had this big win without them!
