ard Brothers Livestock (WB), owned by Jack and Mary Ann Ward, and their two sons, Cameron and Carter, is home to approximately 60 cows, split between spring and summer calvers. Established in 1991, WB began with junior projects for Cameron and Carter, focusing on producing competitive show cattle that grow into useful, productive animals for young showmen, as well as seedstock and commercial producers. That’s the same way Jack’s older brothers — Roger, Jim, Steve and Tommy — established the original WB in the early 1960s. Support from their parents and mentorship by a good family friend, Ken Torr, were pivotal in the program’s success. Mary Ann has a rich history in the cattle business, too. Her grandfather

and great uncle were very successful Hereford breeders in east central Ohio. Her parents, Gary and Shirley, still operate a commercial cowherd on the original Watson Hereford Farm. Gary’s focus continues to be building a cowherd that thrives on the native grasses of east central Ohio, producing top-end feeder calves that demand strong prices in the local market. Jack and Mary Ann were very active in 4-H and FFA. Participation in associated junior activities ignited their passion for the seedstock business. Jack received an associate of science degree from Black Hawk East College in 1984; he was a member of the school’s national champion livestock judging team. He transferred to Purdue University where he received his bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics. Mary Ann attended Ohio State University, which
