“A feeling of pure excitement and adrenaline was racing through me when they selected my heifer as supreme grand!” Breckyn Bloomberg recounts the moment her heifer, Star, was named the champion overall at the 2025 Illinois State Fair. “I was overcome with emotion as I know these experiences don’t just happen every day,” said Breckyn. Breckyn is the 13-year-old daughter of Blake and Wravenna Bloomberg. She has three younger brothers, Brenhem, Berwick and Bexton. Although she has put a heifer in the Top 5 Overall the last two years at the Illinois Stare Fair, this was her first Supreme Title. “To show in the grand heifer drive at state fair is incredible,” said Breckyn. “There is just something about that ring. You are surrounded by people on all sides, packed in, up against the ring and out the doors. So every applause, cheer and celebration is felt magnified inside that ring. I can’t explain the feeling to win in that moment, but it’s one I will hold onto forever!” Star was named the Champion Chi heifer on her way to becoming the grand overall. She was raised by John Sullivan and Family. The Bloombergs said they value their friendship with the Sullivan’s, and that entire crew. Their advice and mentorship for Breckyn during these early years of showing have meant so much. The Bloomberg family has a long history at the Illinois State Fair, and Breckyn said she is proud to carry on the tradition. But not just in the cattle barn, as the
Bloombergs enjoy showing hogs as well. “People often ask me what I like showing the most,” said Breckyn. “But honestly, I don’t have a favorite. I just love to be in a ring competing for something that means something to me.” Showing livestock is what Breckyn and her brothers love to do as a family. “We work hard in the barn everyday trying to make sure we are ready for the next show,” said Breckyn. “Like most families, there are days we get frustrated and even worn out. And there was indeed blood, sweat and tears leading up to State Fair this year. But I know the memories we are making together will last a lifetime!” On August 8, 2025, Breckyn’s memories will not just be about the win. In that moment, she was also afraid she would miss her chance to show her champion cross gilt in the grand drive at the Illinois State Fair, as it was going on simultaneously with the heifers. As soon as her heifer was selected, she and her dad raced across the fairgrounds where her mom and brothers had her gilt walking in the ring. Breckyn barely made it. Her gilt was moments later named the Reserve Supreme. This all topped off an incredible run for Breckyn and her family. Every Stare Fair has special meaning. But none is more important than your own State Fair. For Breckyn Bloomberg, this year’s Illinois State Fair was one for the record books! ●
