Winning the Iowa State Fair steer show has been a goal of mine since the first time I exhibited there in 2019. Nothing compares to the feeling of showing in the Pioneer Livestock Pavilion with an animal you have spent all year working on. The sights, sound and smell of the pavilion along with the packed full bleachers is an unforgettable feeling. This year, knowing that my support system was in those stands made it that much more special. Included in that group were my friends, family, neighbors, teachers and classmates. I will forever be thankful for those who have supported me at one of my favorite steer shows over the years. Hello my name is Klaire Shanks, I am a 17 year old Senior

at Baxter High school. I recently exhibited the 2025 Grand Champion market steer at the Iowa State fair. This has been a life long dream of mine and it feels unreal knowing that I accomplished it. All of the early mornings, late nights, many challenges, giving up my entire summer to dedicate my time in the barn… it all paid off! My family has always loved showing steers at the great Iowa State Fair! It’s something we work towards all year long. Our love for this specific steer show began with my older brother, Dalton. He was fortunate enough to be very successful in Des Moines throughout his 4-H years. Following in his footsteps made this win even more special. My steers name was Grizz and he was an HIA x RCC1
