FOUNDATION PROGRAMS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Suffolk Foundation Scholarship - $1,000 Application is open to any Suffolk youth graduating high school or students enrolled at a college, university, or technical college. Applicants must own registered Suffolk sheep. Funds are paid directly to the winner’s educational institution and only used for academic pursuits. To qualify an entrant must complete an application, submit two letters of recommendation, and provide a current transcript of scholastic credits. Finalists will have a virtual or phone interview with the Scholarship Committee in June. Winner will be announced by July 1st. Prior scholarship recipients are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to those that have not previously received the scholarship. Applications must be received by the office no later than June 1st. Winners will be selected entirely based on merit. Let’s Grow Suffoks Scholarship - $1,000 Offered to an outstanding Suffolk youth who is actively involved with Suffolk sheep and are high school freshman or older. Applicants must have Suffolk sheep and be actively involved with Suffolk Sheep at the local, state, regional and/or national level. Academic achievement, work ethic and values are reviewed by the selection committee. The applicant must plan to attend a college or university with sheep production or research. If the recipient is younger than 18, funds will be paid once the individual enrolls in a college, university or technical college. Prior recipients are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to those that have not previously received the scholarship. Royer Farm Suffolk - $2,000 Offered to Suffolk youth who reside in the states of Indiana, Illinois, or Iowa and plan to enroll in a 2-year or 4-year college/university within one year of application. The applicant must have exhibited registered Suffolk sheep at least four years, in Indiana, Illinois or Iowa. This requirement does not need to be consecutively or currently. Funds will be paid directly to the winner’s college or university and may be used for academic pursuits only. Recipient will be selected based on merit of the persons who apply. Scholarship will not be given, if qualified applicants are not available or if the application is not of such quality to warrant such scholarship. Discretion of this is within the powers of the Scholarship Committee. This scholarship is funded by Royer Farm of Illinois.

Kenzie Kimbrough of Mount Pleasant, Texas is a freshman in college. She is attending the University of Texas at Tyler to major in Nursing. Kenzie enjoyed showing her Suffolk sheep all across the state of Texas and can’t wait to support and help others do so.

ROYER FARM SUFFOLKS SCHOLARHSIP KATHERINE PARSLEY

Katherine Parsley of Sheridan, Indiana is currently a junior at the University of Kentucky studying Animal Sciences on the Pre-Vet track with a minor in Biology. She grew up on a diversified sheep and cattle farm and has raised Suffolk sheep for her entire life. Katherine has shown Suffolk sheep at the county, state, and national levels and she has stayed involved with the breed serving as the 2019-2020 National Suffolk Queen and the current President of 2021-2022 UJSSA Board of Directors. At

school, she is involved with Block & Bridle, College of Agriculture Student Council, and the Pre-Vet Club. Katherine’s future career plans are to attend vet school and practice large animal or equine medicine. Katherine is the daughter of Mike and Karen Parsley.
