Sept/Oct 2024 Fall Edition

M y name is Danica Champion Market Beef at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair. I currently live on a farm where my family actively takes care of wean-to-finish hog barns. Because of this, I was involved in the swine industry at a very young age. My parents are Grant and Carolyn Prins and I have two brothers, one who is 19, Cameron, and one who is 15, Carter. I recently graduated from Southwest Minnesota Christian Prins and I am from Iona, Minnesota I exhibited the Grand High School in May and I am now attending South Dakota State University with a major in Animal Science and a minor in Ag. Business. As well as having hogs, I also grew up with horses. That is

what began my show career in 4-H. I began showing horses at the county fair in 2012 and my love for 4-H quickly grew and I wanted to get more involved; I then started showing pigs and knew that it was what I loved to do. As I got older, my family and I became more competitive and began showing more frequently. In 2019, my family won the Grand Champion Market Barrow at the Minnesota State Fair, which was the jumpstart of our competitive show career. Growing up with hogs, my family never had cattle, but I always wanted to show steers. After much convincing my parents in 2022 my parents got me my first show steer.

As my 4-H career is coming to an end it was a goal of mine and my family to win the steer show at the state fair. We began working day and night to achieve this goal of ours and make it a reality. My mom and dad were my biggest supporters in this process, out in the barn with me every morning and night. Looking back now, I can see how fortunate I am to have the support system I had along the way. I have an amazing group of people rallying behind me to help make my dreams into reality. Exhibiting the Grand Champion Market Beef at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair is something I will truly never forget. It was a special day, with moments that will stay with me for the rest of my life. ●
