Sept/Oct 2024 Fall Edition

M y name is Jake King and I am 18 years old and currently a se- nior at Arickaree high school. My family and I farm and ranch in Cope, a small town in eastern Colorado. We run a cow/ calf operation where we try to raise show calves and continue to grow King Show Cattle. On the farm we raise crops such as corn, wheat, alfalfa, and edible beans. On Monday, August 26th, something very special happened that I have been dreaming and praying about ever since I can remember. I exhibited the Grand Champion market steer at the 2024 Colorado State Fair! My fam- ily and I were fortunate enough to win the steer show with our steer Ralph in 2021 that my sister Joslyn showed. However, something about Rambo’s win in 2024 was extra special. Rambo was the name of my steer and ever since I got him I knew there was something special about him. Even though he had his moments where he could be difficult, Rambo was still nothing short of a great steer! One special moment with him was when

he dragged me and my dad through the barn at his very first show (Chey- enne Livestock Expo) where we did not think we were going to be able to show him the next day. However, he showed awesome and won the show and ever since that show he has been a gamer in the ring. We had a suc- cessful jackpot run with him in the winter of 2023 and onto the spring of 2024. Rambo won Grand Champion prospect steer at Cheyenne Livestock Expo and Showdown on the Plains in Holyoke Colorado. It was very cool to say that he won three shows and went out with a bang! With all these great accomplishments that Rambo and I achieved it would not be possible without so much help and support from many people. First I want to thank God, my lord and savior. Without him I would not be blessed with the family and friends I have, as well as the opportunities that He has given me in the show world. I want to thank my Mom, Dad, and sister. They are my number one sup- porters and the people that are always making me better and helping me succeed in and out of the show ring. Krisha Geffert, Shea Geffert, Brian

Fox and family, thank you for always being there for me in and out of the showring and being people that I look up to. You guys have helped my family and I more than you can ever imagine. Brian Fox thank you for being there ever since we bought our very first show steer. Your family has been with us ever since and I could not thank you enough for all you have done for my family and I. Shea and Krisha, you guys have made winning possible with all of your support and help through- out the years. You guys have also been with us ever since we got started showing and have always pushed and supported me to get better in and out of the showring. I want to thank Bran- don Jones, Todd Caldwell, and John Choate for believing in us and allow- ing us to show a steer like Rambo. WIthout you guys none of this would have been possible. Winning the Colorado State Fair is now something I can say I have ac- complished and comes close to being the best accomplishment I have ever achieved! It is hard to put into words how special winning any show is, but especially the Colorado State fair! ●
