Sept/Oct 2024 Fall Edition

I’m Mason Shalla, I’m a fifteen year old from Riverside, Iowa. I am currently a freshman at Lone Tree Schools where I attend with my brothers Parker, eighth grade, and Ryland, a senior. I also have an older sister, Avery, who is a sophomore at Iowa State University, as well as my eighteen month old little sister, Everlyn. My parents are Nic & Jayna Shalla. I’ve grown up on our family farm where we raise commercial hogs and cattle, a row crop operation, along with having a club calf herd. Working alongside my family every day has helped me to develop a love for the agriculture industry. My goal is to one day take over the family farm and farm alongside my brothers. My older brother, Ryland, has played a big role in inspiring my passion for agriculture on the farming

side of things, while Parker and Avery have been there to push me in the livestock showing world. I started showing when I was 8 years old at a show in Cedar Rapids, Iowa called Down 4 the Cause. Here I showed my first steer named Tater Tot that we bought from our neighbors, and from that moment on I fell in love with showing livestock. The following year I started showing pigs and learned that it was also something I felt very passionate about. After these first years of 4-H I learned that showing was something that I had a very strong drive for. I always set goals for myself as the years would go by, working harder and harder each year. None of these goals would have been accomplished , however, without the help my family offers me day in and day out. Getting to work
