Balance seems to be the buzz word this year.Many breeders and semen companies have rediscovered thisword. At Vision Angus,we have been raising Angus cattlewith the right balance of traits sincewe got started in 1996. We understand the beef industry and the production systems that you live in.Many factors impact us andwe need to be conscious of all that we can sowe don’t have any surprises that end badly. As commercial cattlemen you need to have the correct balance of the right traits to keep your cowherd profitable. Cow function and longevity need to be foremost. Numbers and pounds of calvesmake our payday. Carcass quality is key if we are retaining ownership but even if we are not,we need to ensurewe have a quality product for feeders and eventually consumers. If youwere to look back through the letters of previous sale books fromus, youwould see something similar to the first paragraph every year. For
over 24 years,we have been listening to you, observing your operations and then selecting AI sires and culling cowswith your success inmind. Balance is also needed for our self worth. Faith, family, community and work need to coexist in the correct balance otherwisewe struggle. As you look over the stack of sale books that you get this time of year, keep inmind that our programhas not wavered frombalance becausewe need it asmuch as you do.
