M y name is Tyler Bush. I grew up in the small town of Britton located in the northeast corner of South Dakota. I’m currently a Senior majoring in Animal Science at South Dakota State University. Prior to being a Jackrabbit I attended Hutchinson Community College for two years where I was part of the Livestock Judging Team. As I sit down to try and put my life into words, write a story, a narrative about myself. I begin to struggle. But, like most things what in life comes easy? So, I suppose that’s a good place to start. I’m not shy of a challenge, not afraid of commitment, and honestly a hard work ethic and the idea of dedication is truly what keeps me rolling. I’m the Sixth Generation at Bush Angus, where we take pride in quality seedstock, progressive
genetics, and top of the line customer service. Like most young kids, growing up in the agricultural and livestock industries I could only ever dream of being like my dad and grandpa. From day one I watched two of the hardest working men pour their hearts and souls into our operation. Logically, I wanted to follow suit. I spent every possible day alongside them feeding, fencing, sorting cattle, and of course what any little kid has to do I sat and scratched calves in the show barn for hours on end while my dad clipped. I wouldn’t trade this for the world though. I sat back and watched, I got involved, I dove headfirst, and I learned task by task what it was going to take to try and even attempt to fill the shoes of those two great men. Fast forward to present day. I now look back on all those memories and couldn’t imagine spending my childhood any other way. I think about the opportunities I was blessed with to show cattle, be involved in junior programs, being able to attend conferences, and frankly to have a social life that allowed me any kind
time with my friends. Those same opportunities led me to running for the National Junior Angus Board of Directors back in 2018. Wow, what a roller coaster of emotion that experience was in Madison, WI. I was fortunate to make the board and spent my first-year listening, learning, and comprehending how much those junior boards truly do for the juniors of their associations. Following my first term I was named the 2019-2020 Chairman of the NJAB and had the privilege of leading twelve of my closest friends on the board. Looking into my future I can’t wait to be home full time at my family’s operation. Since graduating high school and moving about 10 hours from home to Hutchinson, KS. There were a lot of things I learned to appreciate in my time being away. I learned the value of family and how much it means to have their support no matter what crazy dreams I’m chasing after. I began to further admire how much time and effort my family had put into keeping our operation progressive for so many years. Though, what I learned most
