C alving ease speCialists The question was posed, “Do you just like pretty cat- tle?” Why yes, yes we do. That being said why can’t we have it all? Why can’t have cattle with power, foot size, correctness, MUSCLE, and phenotypically cor- rect proportions that feed, that have nice udders, that have longevity and productivity bred into their pedi- gree? Why can’t we have bulls that will make cattle with that eye catching correctness and balance on the end of a lead rope that will hang a carcass, that grade, make cows that produce the year, after year, after year? Our answer is you can, we aren’t just show cattle. Griswold Cattle sees all ends of the industry, and simply put, we think you as consumer deserves more, let us help you get it. Don’t settle for mediocre.

Help eliminate any unwanted oils and debris left over from show day fitting with Sullivan’s Break Away After Show Shampoo. This heavy-duty shampoo will wash away excess oils left behind from adhesive removers as well as any residue missed while breaking down your show day masterpiece. This shampoo also works great as a first-time shampoo to breakaway heavy dir t and grime. Not intended for daily use as it could cause drying to hair and skin.

FIRST LOOK AT THE NEWNWSS STOCKYARDS EVENT CENTER
On December 15, 2020 The Showtimes had the opportunity to meet with the National Western Stock Show’s President and CEO Paul Andrews! In addition to our interview, he walked us through the new National Western Stock Show’s Stockyards Event Center that is currently under construction in Denver! We were the first to see the new show arena and auction arena it what was formerly the Pepsi Arena in the yards. You don’t want to miss our new exclusive video! Watch it online at theshowtimesmagazine.com today. This exciting new facility will debut along with the new yards in January 2022!
On Wednesday, November 4th the livestock industry lost a legacy and our family lost a loyal friend who we loved dearly. Showtimes Hall of Fame member, Loren Broad, had our backs since we were little and he and his wife Maureen ran the Colorado/Wyoming Sullivan Supply trailer. We hosted seven Blackouts - he would always beat us to the show to setup and be the last one we hugged goodbye as we left. His work ethic, knowledge of livestock and his loyalty is unmatched. He will be dearly missed and forever a part of who we are. LOREN BROAD
hof farewell
MARK SNEED
The livestock industry lost one of the original great photographers and Showtimes Hall of Fame Member, Mark Sneed on Monday, December 28th. Mark Sneed was born and raised in Ewing, Illinois on a 1,700 acre farming and livestock operation. A strong work ethic was instilled in Mark at an early age, and was further encouraged through the death of his father when Mark was 12 years old. Mark’s family was continuously involved in the 4-H program for over 40 consecutive years. Mark’s interest was particularly strong in the cattle aspects of the livestock industry. He spent many years and miles on the road with his 4-H projects attending shows across the country. Mark had the honor of exhibiting the Grand Champion Steer at the North American International Livestock Exhibition (NAILE) in 1983, 1984, and 1985 and also the Grand Champion Steer at the American Royal in 1986. This was a particularly proud moment for Mark, as he only fed one steer per year. After high school, Mark attended Rendlake Jr. College and continued his education at Southern Illinois University majoring in Agricultural Education and Mechanization with a minors in Animal Science and Computer Programming. While in college, Mark was named High Overall Individual at the Midsouth Livestock Judging Contest. Mark owned a professional fitting service for four years after college and then
moved into a district manager sales position with Vigortone Chemical Company. With Vigortone, Mark covered 18 counties and a million and a half dollars in sales per year. After Vigortone, Mark was employed with Golden Harvest Seed Company for the next six years. While selling chemicals, Mark still remained close with the livestock industry and realized his heart was truly in the cattle sector of livestock. With that, he moved to Ohio to start a cattle order buying position. It was while in this position, Mark realized that one of the most important marketing tools was photography and internet tools. This sparked Mark’s idea of starting his own livestock marketing company. In 2003, Mark went to Denver to start his professional career as a livestock marketer through photography at the National Western Stock Show. Word of mouth spread and his business got busy. As many in the cattle livestock industry know, Mark’s name has been seen on many of the top operation’s photographs throughout the country. Mark Sneed is a household name in the cattle industry we all know and love, whether people knew him personally or have just seen his name under a beautiful photograph, he is recognized. His work was tremendous and he took great pride in putting out the best there is in livestock marketing through photographs and videos. Mark will be missed by many.

Jimmy at center of the ring at the 2020 American Royal, Supreme Champion Junior Heifer.
49
In the next few pages – here is the story of Jimmy and his family – in pictures.
Jimmy and Cheryl Jimmy Linthicum Sr. judged Supreme Champion Junior Heifer at the 2020 American Royal in Kansas City. Many junior exhibitors were meeting, or seeing Jimmy judge, and his daughter Cheryl give his reasons, for the very first time. Jimmy’s been around the world… literally and figuratively, judging shows and raising cattle for over 60 years. More than 450 with Cheryl, and Cheryl another 400 on her own.
Young JCL Ellsworth, Jimmy, Dr. Joy, Hilda and Sherry Linthicum. Jimmy was raised by Ellsworth (Linky) and Hilda Linthicum of Dayton, Maryland. He was the eldest of 3, and his sisters Joy and Sherry were all active children.
When Jimmy was 18 months old, he was sickened by meningitis. He was blessed to survive, but he lost his hearing. That is where the “never give up” attitude came from. His parents and his family saw him through. Jimmy attended the Rinehart School for the deaf from age 5 through the 6th grade. He came back to go through public junior and high school, placed in the same class with his sister Joy. Jimmy’s father, Ellsworth, raised cattle and founded the Howard County Beef Club. He got Jimmy started, and soon, others were coaching Jimmy. Jimmy started slow… his first steers were not the winners, but within a few years, he exhibited numerous county and state level champions. The early years – JCL Polled Herefords
1963 - Get of sire – JFG Silver Mischief, HAB Silver Mischief and A September and two November calves.

HAB Victor Mischief... 1962 National Grand Champion Polled Hereford Bull. $102,000 (Left to right: BC Rogers – new owner, Otis Smith – semen interest owner, Gene Schubert, manager, Rogers Farms – TJ Atkins, Manager of Potomac Valley Farms.) JCL was given ½ interest in Victor Mischief to feed, fit and show the bull. Jimmy was 21. He wasn’t very tall, but to get him into the hotel where he sold, was a challenge. The doorway had to be cut out... the bull was too wide to make it through. The American Hereford Association graciously paid for the reconstruction of a new doorway.
A celebration, wrapping up a day with champions, and premier exhibitor – Keystone in Pennsylvania. One of the few times you would fine Jimmy on horseback! A growing family, a growing program After running a fitting service, with as many as 75 head in two showbarns, JCL began breeding Limousin cattle in the late 1970s. That coincided with the family’s move from Linthicum Road, in Dayton, Maryland, to a fresh start in Welch, Oklahoma.
Champion Charolais produce of dam, exhibited by JCL. Left to right, Kim Baford, Dennis Stockdale, and Jimmy, Sr. The Limousin herd peaked about about 150 mother cows, and the original herd was dispersed in 2000. Bettye Lou, Jimmy’s first wife passed away, and JCL and Regina would begin a small herd of Limousin cattle – including show heifers exhibited by Grandchildren Linden and Jaden.

Taylor Fields, Regina Linthicum, Chance Myers, Cole Atkinson, Linden Linthicum and JCL. From 1978 to 2017, Linthicum children and grandchildren would exhibit 12 junior national grand and reserve grand champions in the Limousin breed.
While the Red Angus herd is a new beginning for JCL, it marks Jimmy’s adaptability, and his willingness to tackle a “fresh start”. Just 3 years into breeding Red Angus, the program is beginning to shape.

Late in 2016, Cheryl bought JCL’s first Red Angus for her nephew, Jaden to show. “Jade”, the first red angus heifer at JCL, was born Lazy MC Lorin 168D, in Canada. She is shown here in Fort Worth, in 2017. That day, she was reserve grand champion as a calf. Sadly, “Jade” lost half her back foot in an accident, but thanks to OSU, Dr. Tyler and some TLC, she remains a productive cow for JCL. Her daughter, granddaughters, and sons can be found at the ranch.

A fistbump of congratulations for every breed champion winner at the 2020 American Royal, with Jill McConnell . Today, JCL has 2 major goals: 1) Breed the best Red Angus cattle possible – for the real world and the showring, 2) help young people (and other breeders) to succeed. Jimmy, Sr. (JCL) and Cheryl started working together when Cheryl was just 11. Today, they have judged all over the US , Canada, Mexico and Australia, and Cheryl has also judged on her own. JCL and Cheryl are back in the ring again, and will be judging again at the Cattlemen’s Congress in OKC. JCL and Cheryl Judging Jimmy and Cheryl Judging
