At a show a few weeks ago, I was visiting with one of my friends that I don’t get to see very often. She asked her young son who was by her side, “do you know Miss Jen?” He shook his head no, and she responded by saying “well, she knows you.” What she meant was that I know him from seeing his mom’s social media. I follow her, so I know about him, but I really don’t know him, and he doesn’t know me. This happens a lot with social media. You can feel like you know someone even though you have no relationship with them. My question is, how do you know Jesus? Do you know Him, or just know about Him? Do you take time to build a relationship with Him? Do you take time to follow Him? In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus teaches us “21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I

will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” The world wants to make us believe that good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell. This is just simply not the case. If there is no God and no Jesus, there is no heaven. The Bible teaches us that the only way to heaven is to believe in Jesus and follow Him. The scripture above states that only those that do the will of the Father will enter the kingdom of heaven. We can’t just know about Jesus. We can’t just believe in God. The three things we must do to spend eternity in heaven are to believe in Him, confess our sins, and live our lives according to His will. We live in a world that is getting farther and farther away from God and more engulfed in sin. It has never been more important to focus on having a real relationship with God so that sin doesn’t creep into our lives. When our time comes to leave this world, it’s better to be certain that we’ve lived a life according to Jesus teachings and are welcomed with open arms into heaven. ■
