109 ISSUES This is the 109th issue of The Showtimes Magazine!

Going to print with the State Fair Edition of The Showtimes is our equivalent to the last week in the barn before the State Fair. Emotions are heightened, there’s an excitement about showcasing what you have spent months working on and of course you’re tired! As I went through each page of the finished magazine gathering information for the Index, Contents and Sale Directory, it was fun to see not only the amazing recent events, exhibitors and impactful individuals we were able to highlight but also see what’s coming for the future. This is the one issue a year that hard working families who host an Annual Pature Sale get to showcase their genetics and invite people to their homes. We do not take the task of marketing for them for granted. We work hard to fill the magazine with interesting features to have people read it cover to cover, insuring that there is no bad spot in the magazine! As you read through this August issue, be sure to check out our two new Hall of Fame members! One is a family that has dedicated their life to better our industry. The other is a retiring Junior Exhibitor who has already made their mark on the cattle world - and they’re just beginning!

Jesus teaches in Matthew 23:25-28 “25 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. 27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” Jesus condemned the Pharisees for putting on a perfect front, when they really needed to practice humility. Worse yet, they were the leaders that appeared saintly on the outside while being corrupt on the inside. The world puts so much emphasis on outward appearances, while Jesus only cares about what’s in our heart. Pride keeps us wanting to look perfect on the outside, but Jesus wants us to come to Him with humility and

authenticity. When we are fake, we can’t grow. If we don’t admit that we have weaknesses, how can we fix them? Not only do we need to admit our weaknesses to God, but it’s also good to admit them to one another. Being able to show weakness and ask for prayers when we are broken inside gives those around us an opportunity to show that we are still loved despite our flaws. Be real. God created you with all your imperfections and will love you through anything. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, repented of your sins, and learned to walk with Christ, perfection will come when you get to heaven. ●

ot long ago, while watching a heifer show, the judge frequently talked about

heifers having

honest rib shape verses depth of body from being fat. In heifers especially, it’s important to distinguish the difference between fake and the real deal. We should strive for honesty and integrity in our everyday lives as well. What persona are you putting out there for people to see? Are you showing who you really are, or the fake version that you want people to see? There is a lot of pressure in the world to be perfect, but Jesus was the only perfect person, and people still hated Him. Trying to look perfect for the world can be a burden too big to handle.

Corn on the Cob Soak corn with husks in water for 1-2 hours Throw on the grill, turning until cooked Husks will be charred (when you squeeze it will be tender)

Spaghetti 1lb hamburger

1/2lb breakfast sausage half green bell pepper half onion 2 stacks celery 2 cloves grated garlic Oregano, salt and pepper Put in pan and let it set for hour or so before cooking Use paper towel to soak up grease 16oz tomato sauce Rinse each can with water 1 table spoon or so of tomato paste Add meat Simmer on low until thickens Use spoon to remove grease on edge of pan as it cooks Garlic Bread 1 loaf French bread cut in half 1 stick margarine (not butter) 2 cloves garlic

melt together slow Spoon on bread and spread garlic out Top with Parmesan cheese and light paprika for color Set oven to 350 bake 5-10 just until butter starts to bubble

During the fair, Doyle would always cook his corn on the grill. His wife Carol’s Spaghetti was always a special treat. Just recently, their daughter Vickie Meyer, along with her husband Mark prepared it for us. It took us back in time, and now you can enjoy it as well!

Ten years ago, when I attended my very first Shorthorn Junior National in St. Paul, Minnesota, I never imagined it would turn into a decade of chasing banners, making memories, and attending every Junior National possible. Looking back now, it’s hard to believe that one week at a cattle show would shape so much of who I am today. This summer was one I’ll never forget. Over the course of 32 straight days, I attended four different Junior Nationals, traveling more than 3,500 miles from Chianina and Maine- Anjou Junior Nationals in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Shorthorns in Abilene, Texas, to Limousin in Circleville, Ohio, and finally Angus in Louisville, Kentucky. While it was one of the busiest summers I’ve ever had, it also reminded me why I fell in love with this industry in the first place. The people. The reality is that summers like this don’t just happen. They take months of planning, hotel rooms, what trailers and tack are going where, countless hours on the road, and an incredible group of people who make it all possible. I have been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the very best in the business. The Winegardner Klingaman, Schaeffer, Jones, and Cates crews have become so much more than people I show cattle with. They’ve become family. They have supported me, challenged

me, celebrated with me, picked me up when things didn’t go my way, and reminded me time and time again that this industry is built on people. Looking back over the last ten years, I realize my junior career has never really been about the banners or backdrop pictures. Sure, those moments are something I’ll always treasure, but they aren’t what I’ll remember most. What I’ll remember are the friendships made in the barns, the laughs on late-night drives from one show to another, and the countless people who took the time to invest in me along the way. Every early morning, every long drive, every win, and every disappointment helped shape me into the person I am today, both inside and outside the show ring. When it came time to figure out how I wanted to give back to an industry that had already given me so much, running for the National Junior Shorthorn Board felt like the obvious choice. After all, Shorthorns are where it all started. Serving as both a director and President has been one of the greatest honors of my junior career. It gave me the opportunity to help create experiences for younger exhibitors that were so similar to the ones that shaped me. It also taught me that leadership isn’t about having a title. It’s about serving others, listening, and doing your best to leave something better than you found it.

As my junior career begins to wind down, I find myself appreciating every show just a little bit more. I know my days as a junior exhibitor are numbered, and while growing up isn’t exactly something I’m excited about, I know this industry has prepared me well for whatever comes next. The leadership opportunities, friendships, work ethic, and life lessons I’ve gained through the cattle business have opened doors I never knew existed. If the last ten years have taught me anything, it’s

that Junior Nationals were never just about showing cattle. They were about becoming the person I was meant to be. One little girl walked into her first Shorthorn Junior National in St. Paul and ended up breaking her foot show morning. Ten years later, she’s walking away from her summer with something far more valuable: a lifetime of friendships, memories, and a family spread across the country that she’ll always be proud to call home. ●

he Lind family's cattle operation took root in the 1940s in Eaton, Colorado on the very land the family still

Directors for the National Western Stock Show. While at Cattle-Fax, Luke met Becky and they later got married and returned to Eaton to raise their family on the same farm Luke grew up on. Over the years, she became the steady hand behind the scenes, helping to raise a family while keeping everything moving in the right direction. Like many families, everyone simply did what needed to be done and that environment helped to shape the next generation. Growing up, Colton and Dalton spent their time much like a lot of kids in the livestock industry, between baseball games, cattle shows, and chores on the farm that still needed to be done before daylight or after practice. The lessons that they learned along the way of hard work, accountability, and showing up every day all became habits that would later help shape the direction of their everyday lives. After college, both Colton and Dalton returned home. With their love for the cattle business that had been instilled in them growing up, they decided to make raising show cattle a greater focus. What had once been a family project consisting of a small AI herd of Maine-Anjou cows gradually evolved into a growing operation with its own identity focusing extensively on embryo transfer. Like most operations, that growth brought its

calls home today. For Luke, cattle were simply part of growing up. His father, Ed, showed cattle at the Weld County Fair, and Luke followed right behind

him. The lessons he learned during those early years stuck. Take care of the cattle, do the work, pay attention to the details, and let the results take care of themselves. Those lessons led Luke to Colorado State University,

where he was a member of the

1983 livestock judging team. After college, Luke’s love for the cattle industry led him to spend years with Cattle- Fax and currently is Senior VP and Chief Risk

own set of challenges and hurdles to overcome. Along the way though many people lent a helping hand and knowledge, among them were Wade and Kaylene Rodgers and the Dorsey family. One pivotal moment for the path of their operation was purchasing a donor cow in partnership with the Stone family. That partnership marked another step in the operation's early growth. Today, Colton handles much of the business side of the operation, while Dalton oversees the day- to-day management of the cattle. Together, they share in decision making in every part of the program. Dalton’s girlfriend, Tatum Swink has also become an important part of the operation. Raised in Perkins, Oklahoma, she grew up active in 4-H and livestock projects before attending Oklahoma State University. Today, she serves as Director of Activities for the North American Limousin Foundation, bringing valuable industry perspective and a strong connection to junior exhibitors to the operation.

Lind Show Cattle has been truly blessed to enjoy success in recent years, including the Grand Champion Market Steer at the 2024 Ohio State Fair, Reserve Grand Champion at the Ohio State Fair in 2025 and Reserve Supreme Champion Purebred Heifer at the 2024 Oklahoma Youth Expo. These moments have meant a great deal to the whole family, however as the years have passed by the most rewarding part has never been the banners. It's been seeing young people learn the very same lessons they did growing up and building relationships with some of the very best people in this business. While the operation has considerably changed over the years since the boys were growing up, the values behind it remain much the same: hard work, accountability, and showing up every day even when things don’t go as planned. As Luke’s father Ed often said and as holds especially true in the agriculture business, “If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.” ●
