Hello, my name is Ruby Bell from Bristow, Oklahoma. I am currently a Freshman at Oklahoma State University majoring in Ag Business. This October, I had the amazing privilege of winning the 125th American Royal Market Steer Show with my steer “Ted”! Over the course of my show career I have had many incredible opportunities to show great cattle and winning the Royal was the icing on the cake! This show season looked a lot different for me. I was home all summer working on the two fat steers for Tulsa State Fair and the American Royal, but in August I moved to Stillwater to start my freshman year of college. Between sorority life, clubs, and classes, I came home as much as I could to help with the steers, but the majority of the work fell on my sister, Hadlie, and brother, Tate.
They are the ones that made this win happen! My siblings and parents got up at dawn every day before school to put steers in the cool room, turned them out every night, fed, rinsed, and everything in between. This is truly a family win, not just an individual win. Having both of the steers win major shows made all the work worth it! From the very beginning of my show career showing goats at the county fair to winning OYE Grand Champion Steer, and the American Royal Grand Champion Steer in the SAME year, it has truly been an amazing ride! Learning the ins and outs of showing livestock has been something I would never trade. The hard work and dedication that comes from this industry are things you can't learn anywhere else. We always pour everything into our show cattle to ensure we don't regret any of the
outcomes that we can control. I always want to be able to walk into the ring with my head held high and know that we’ve given it all we have to get to that point, and then let the judge decide the rest. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone in my corner. First of all, the Lord for putting me in all the right places at the right time with the right people. Having Jesus write this amazing story for us is truly a blessing. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11. His plans are way better than I can even fathom! Without my family, I would be nothing. They are the rock and foundation of my daily life. I cannot thank them enough for everything they do for me.
