MAKE THE MOST OF EVERY OPPORTUNITY AND BE WISE.

with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” A few months ago, I had several friends going through big personal things. I’ve always considered myself someone they could count on for sound advice or just an understanding ear to listen. The part that I struggled with is where to draw the line on endless repeated topics and at what point it becomes too much that it takes away from my focus. I knew it was up to me to set boundaries and end the conversation, but I wanted to be there for them at the same time. I was starting to feel like it was dragging me down. I decided that instead of spending my time listening to the same thing over and over, I would spend more time studying the scripture and how it could help their situation. Instead of a two-hour phone call, I cut it down to fifteen minutes and followed it by sending an online sermon or some Bible verses that I thought might help. It felt like a weight was lifted off once I limited the time I spent listening to problems that I had no part in. I learned that I had to be diligent to control any negative energy and turn it into something that brings glory to God. ideal diet for each individual animal to maximize their potential and achieve success. When our livestock doesn’t quite look the part, we tweak the ration until we get them turned around. We

know that what we feed them every day counts for something. We are disciplined when it comes to feeding them right and controlling every aspect of what goes into their system. Sometimes I wish it were that simple when it comes to controlling what we allow into our focus. Paul writes in Ephesians 5:15-20 “15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another
