Nov/Dec 2023 Year End Edition

Hi my name is Tyler Overby although most people know me as “ Lil Bob .” I grew up in Northern Illinois on my family’s row crop operation. After high school I attended BlackHawk Community College in Kewanne, Illinois. While at Blackhawk, I was introduced to some of the most influential people in my life that helped lead the way for me in the cattle industry. During my time at Blackhawk, I started working at Caldwell Show Cattle in the fall of 2004 and 2005. Many of you are probably curious how I received the nickname “Lil Bob” Brandon Jones and Todd Caldwell gave me this nickname because while working there I always looked up to and idolized Bob May in the show cattle industry. In the spring months of 2005 and 2006 I spent my time working for Shane Meier in Stonewall, Texas. In the fall of 2006, I made my way to Stillwater, Oklahoma and started working for John and Jeannie Griswold at their operation Griswold Cattle. I stayed in Stillwater for the next two years. While working at Griswold’s I also spent my time helping two of my dearest friends Luke Doris and Nick Reimann. In October 2008, I ventured to Newcastle, Oklahoma at Bonham Show Cattle which is where I have resided ever since. During my time in Newcastle, I have learned more than I would’ve imagined from Steve Bonham and Travis Otterstad. Words can’t express my gratitude towards this industry. There are hundreds of people I can thank for playing a vital role in getting me to where I am today. To my mom and dad, thank you for allowing me to chase my dreams all those years ago. To all my pals that stuck by my side and continue to believe in me, thank you so much you all know who you are. Thank you to the Showtimes and the Reid family, what you have done and continue to do for this industry does not go unnoticed. Without the people and the kids in the livestock world, none of this would be worth it. The memories made and lessons learned over the span of my lifetime are cherished far more than the wins I have been blessed to be a part of. ■
