my two collegiate judging coaches). I’ll even follow a creature I really like, just to try to see the bottom of their feet. Toes tell so much about stock, and I thoroughly enjoy breaking down an animal’s build. Also, Joe will never actually admit this but - he is the best ear getter in the industry. If you disagree then you’ve simply never seen him get ears. It’s beyond impressive. Whether it’s a picture pen or a backdrop, he’s the real MVP. SIX What is the best part about judging together? Joelynn - We’re pretty parallel in terms of what we like in cattle - and we really don’t argue. Aside from the
obvious of getting to sort a fat steer show next to my best friend, I think the best part will be just getting to talk cattle with someone who sees them so similarly. We both get high on certain traits, and we both admit when the other is reading a creature more correctly. Should make for a pretty fun day. Joe - I’m just really glad that I won’t have to listen to another one of her several hour long critique of all my decisions on the way home. Joelynn - I stand by my answer. SEVEN What would you consistently like each exhibitor to take away from you judging?
Joe - You are never judged for who you are or beat by someone because of who they were - rather you’re solely placed on the phenotypic presence of your calf. It doesn’t change who you are, nor does it change the effort you’ve put into it. EIGHT What is your best food you’ve had at a State Fair? Joelynn - if you’ve ever been to the Pennsylvania Farm Show (technically my home ‘state fair’), then you know there is only one answer here - the vanilla milkshakes. NINE What has been your greatest accomplishment or memory? Have you met our son?
