3rd Overall Shorthorn Plus Heifer Houston Ferree

4th Overall Shorthorn Plus Heifer Samantha VanVorhis

5th Overall Shorthorn Plus Heifer Eli Walther

t all started 3 years ago, our son Keegan had been showing for three years and in love with the Shorthorn Breed, we wanted to get him something that would be hard to beat in the Mid-Atlantic Region. After

a good bit of research and referrals I spent a July morning on the way to Fargo SD in Modoc IN meeting Tyler Cates and touring his farms.

I was impressed with the Cattle, but more so I was impressed with Tyler, it was easy to see he was more concerned about the families and cattle then he was the dollars. With still a strong passion to win. Being a first generation show family going into our 4th year we had already learned that was a hard to find! Keegan and I returned in Sept. and bought our first Cates Heifer. Tyler convinced us to go to Junior Nationals and after our first one in Louisville we were hooked. We returned to Modoc in 2021 and bought Keegan a heifer that ended up being Reserve in 2022 in Kansas City. After experiencing two Junior Nationals with Keegan I was convinced it was something our whole family needed to attend. Last year we kept a Plus we raised for our daughter Audrey, purchased a Plus from Cates for our oldest son Grady along with a PB for Keegan. Sawyer our 7-year-old also had fallen in love with Shorthorns, we bought a fall out of Cates Spring sale with the intent on him showing, but she was a little too big and pushy for him yet so we decided to bring a February born PB and her recipe to the show barn so they could start bonding early and convinced our daughter to show the fall.
