THIS ISSUE IS YOUR NUMBER ONE SOURCE FOR FALL PASTURE SALES AND SUMMER SHOW RESULTS!
OLD WAY OF LIFE
Real conversation starts when people say what they actually think. I was blown away by the response to my Editor’s Note in the May/June issue of The Showtimes talking about keeping the human factor in what you do. One simple note revealed that more people than you think place a value to what many now refer to as the “old way of life.” A solid handshake, a handwritten note or giving your actual time to make connections with people go a long way. I have been doing The Showtimes now for over half of my life. What has made the biggest impact on not only the business, but me as a person, is not the number of likes on a social media, but the people who are Showtimes in my book. Joe Sullivan, featured on the cover of this issue, believed in 15, 16 and 20 year old with a dream of starting a livestock magazine and gave us our first big break by buying the cover of our
State Fair issue a year in advance. Don Greiman, who we dearly miss, showed us the ropes of the Iowa State Fair and always scheduled a time to have lunch and make sure we were given the red carpet treatment at the show. Customers like Tres Rios Silver, who have advertised in every single issue of The Showtimes since our very first issue published in April of 2007. They are a family owned, and faith driven business that have truly supported us from day one. The livestock and supplies marketed and sold through The Showtimes is humbling, but it’s the people and the connections made over the years that keep us working long hours and full speed ahead. Between traveling to Junior Nationals and designing and printing backdrops and awards for Fairs, putting together this issue, our largest of the year, is as Graham Blagg recently told us, “Bet it’s like wrangling cats.” Mission accomplished – I could not be prouder of the publication you are reading and encourage you to read it cover to cover. Congratulate the winners highlighted [in person] when you see them, give the advertisers business, and don’t forget the human factor.
