y name is Mason Allan and I am from Nocona Texas. I am currently a sophomore at Redlands Community College where I am a member of the Livestock Judging Team. I was extremely blessed to exhibit the Grand Champion Chianina Female at this year’s Junior National. Although I will always be a Hereford kid at heart, the event that the Maine-Anjou and Chianina Associations put on is first class and one of the most enjoyable Junior Nationals I’ve been to. Winning any Junior Nationals is a feat in itself and I would not have been able to achieve this goal without the help of some incredible people. I’d like to thank Tony and Brandy [Jeffs] for allowing me the opportunity to show “Nubbs” and all of those who helped her look the part on show day. My roots may run deep in the Hereford breed but a fun tidbit that some may not know is that my family raised and
sold Chianina females throughout the 2000’s before dispersing our continental type cows in 2012 when we shifted our focus to raising Herefords. We were also lucky enough to have the opportunity to be the first to turn the Legendary Who Da Man out on Cows for his first two breeding seasons. Although we did not know it at the time, he would go on to be one of the most influential bulls in the show cattle industry and his impact is still very apparent 19 years later. To wrap it up, I’d like to thank my parents for all they have done for me throughout my years of showing and the opportunities that have arose due to the sacrifices and work they have done for me and my brothers. I’ll never be able to put into words just how grateful I am for them helping to achieve some of my biggest dreams and goals. ■
